Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 revealed

Lamborghini Huracan

Lamborghini has taken the wraps off its Gallardo replacement, the Cabrera. Except it’s not called the Cabrera at all, it’s been named the Huracan.

As is customary, Huracan is named after a bull, this one fought in Spain back in 1879 and apparently he took no crap from those poncey guys waving capes. And with 448kW (610hp) at 8250rpm and 560Nm at 6500rpm you won’t be easily pushed around either.

Coupled to a new 7-speed dual clutch transmission (Lamborghini Doppia Frizione or LDF) and an all-wheel drive system the Huracan brushes off 100km/h in only 3.2 seconds. The double century is knocked off in 9.9 seconds and it has a top speed of 325km/h.

A combination of carbon fibre and aluminium has been used to form the Huracan’s “hybrid chassis” helping to keep the its dry weight to 1422kg. Not superlight by any means, but a power-to-weight ratio of 2.33kg/hp is pretty handy.

The look of the latest beast from Sant’Agata is very much inspired by the outgoing Gallardo. That’s no bad thing as the Gallardo not only looked fantastic—it still looks great today in fact—but it is also Lambo’s highest ever selling model, with more than 14,000 finding homes.

The Huracan will make its full public debut at the Geneva Motorshow in March. Before then, though, it will be shown to select clientele at a series of invite-only preview events.

When the Huracan comes to Australia in the second half of next year it’s expected to be priced from around $430,000. That’s a drop in price of over $100,000 compared with the top-selling Gallardo.

Lamborghini Cabrera caught on video

Is Audi making an RS version of the R8?

Audi R8 GT RS?

This Audi R8 was recently photographed at a service station near the Nürburgring in Germany. It’s a bit of an odd one. Are those red markings on the body work part disguise, or part bad taste? Is that lower front splitter an aftermarket add-on, or a work in progress? Are they really new exhaust exits up high, coming straight from the engine bay? Speaking of which, could there be an even more powerful V10 underneath that plastic engine cover?

But, a bigger question remains; is there really scope for yet another, driver focused, iteration of the R8 given Audi has already give us the R8 GT? Maybe this could be a rear-wheel drive only beast to take it up to the Porsche GT2 RS.

So, we have a lot of questions about this car, let’s hope Audi has some answers for us soon.

UPDATE: Word on the tweet says this car may simply be an MTM development prototype, rather than Audi being up to any new tricks. I thought there were too many unanswered questions on this one.

Truth in powersliding

Audi R8 V10

Back in May we learned an Audi R8 V10 and an empty El Toro Marine Base were a match made in heaven. Now, we get an encore performance. Bravo, I hear you say.

WebRidesTV have published this behind the scenes footage to YouTube and rather than reading more padding here, just take the jump and watch the clip for yourself right now!

The odd couple

Audi R8 V10 v Honda Type R Mugen

Here’s an interesting video comparison from Autocar. On hand is the awesome Audi R8 V10 being pestered by a (UK market only) buzzing Honda Type R Mugen. Now, at £40K the Mugen is no shortcut to cheap thrills by any means. But asking it to keep up with the £100K R8 is a pointless exercise, isn’t it?

Well watch the video to find out. I guess the real point here is, if you had access to both of these cars and a twisty road, you’d most likely want a piece of the action too. A cracking car is a cracking car, doesn’t matter what company it keeps.

Audi R8 GT3 prototype spied

Audi R8 GT3 protoype

This flared and angry beast you see before you is understood to be an Audi R8 GT3 prototype. With matt black paint, and even wider sideblades this V10 powered coupé looks sensational.

Also of note on the bodywork is a revised front splitter with two small fins on either side to aid downforce. At the back you see a fixed rear wing, and some more aero work on the rear valance. Two enlarged round exhaust tips also let you know that this is no ordinary R8 V10, if there is such a thing.

Spotted on roads near the Nürburgring you can expect Audi to be dialling in lots of data learned from their 24 hour race debut last year where they almost took home the chocolates.

Audi R8 V10 – World Performance Car 2010

Audi R8 V10

In further news from the World Car of the Year awards the Audi R8 V10 has been named 2010’s World Performance Car. The R8 has double dipped with this title after the R8 4.2 V8 was awarded the same honour back in 2008.

The R8 knocked off some very stiff opposition to win this award, too. Joining the Audi in the final three was the Ferrari California and the Porsche 911 GT3.

The V10 powered R8 is fitted with a 5.2 litre direct injection engine, closely related to the powerplant used in the Lamborghini Gallardo. The unit develops and impressive 386kW and the car can reach 100km/h in under four seconds. Readers are invited to send in next week’s lotto numbers to AUSmotive HQ at your earliest convenience.

A genuine supercar experience

Audi R8 Spyder

The Audi R8 Spyder—who could say no to that 525hp V10 sitting behind your ears? Well, you can see for yourself after the break that the chaps at Evo magazine would be more than willing to join the queue for the roofless R8.

Now, as most readers will know, Evo sets a very high standard for their reviews. They are generally acknowledged as providing some of the better reviews in the motoring landscape. That being the case, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below on how you think the opportunity to review the R8 Spyder was handled.
