Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 revealed

Lamborghini Huracan

Lamborghini has taken the wraps off its Gallardo replacement, the Cabrera. Except it’s not called the Cabrera at all, it’s been named the Huracan.

As is customary, Huracan is named after a bull, this one fought in Spain back in 1879 and apparently he took no crap from those poncey guys waving capes. And with 448kW (610hp) at 8250rpm and 560Nm at 6500rpm you won’t be easily pushed around either.

Coupled to a new 7-speed dual clutch transmission (Lamborghini Doppia Frizione or LDF) and an all-wheel drive system the Huracan brushes off 100km/h in only 3.2 seconds. The double century is knocked off in 9.9 seconds and it has a top speed of 325km/h.

A combination of carbon fibre and aluminium has been used to form the Huracan’s “hybrid chassis” helping to keep the its dry weight to 1422kg. Not superlight by any means, but a power-to-weight ratio of 2.33kg/hp is pretty handy.

The look of the latest beast from Sant’Agata is very much inspired by the outgoing Gallardo. That’s no bad thing as the Gallardo not only looked fantastic—it still looks great today in fact—but it is also Lambo’s highest ever selling model, with more than 14,000 finding homes.

The Huracan will make its full public debut at the Geneva Motorshow in March. Before then, though, it will be shown to select clientele at a series of invite-only preview events.

When the Huracan comes to Australia in the second half of next year it’s expected to be priced from around $430,000. That’s a drop in price of over $100,000 compared with the top-selling Gallardo.

Detroit 2013: Honda NSX Concept

Acura NSC Concept

Honda, or more accurately, Acura has turned up to Detroit with a new NSX Concept. Just like they did last year. Only this time they’ve tweaked the styling a little, making it more production-based and opened the doors to give us a look inside. Again, we expect the interior to be pretty close to final production spec.

Jon Ikeda, chief designer, Acura Design Studio, isn’t missing his chance to dabble in some first class hyperbole. “Consistent with the spirit of the original NSX, our intention is to support the psychological and emotional aspects of driving a super car at the limit, because we are insistent about delivering on the synergy between man and machine,” he said.

And, so long as you can get the interior in any colour other than bright red, we think Ikeda and his mates have done a pretty good job. Certainly, from the outside, the latest NSX concept still makes us want one.

Let’s not forget the all-new mid-mounted V6 and tricky electric bits driving the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system either. We’re expecting the second-generation NSX to be very, very good. Just a shame we’re probably going to have to wait until 2015 to find out.

Detroit 2012: Honda NSX Concept

2015 Acura / Honda NSX concept

“Like the first NSX, we will again express high performance through engineering efficiency.”

Speaking at the Detroit motor show, Takanobu Ito, President and CEO of Honda Motor Co, ushered in a new era for the iconic NSX nameplate.

Wearing Acura badging for the North American audience the concept on display looks quite handy. We’re sure the newly developed V6 engine, mid-mounted of course, 7-speed dual clutch transmission and funky sounding Sport Hybrid Super Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system will follow suit.

To further explain the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system Honda says the unique twin electric motor drive mechanism uses a bilateral torque adjustable control system. Huh?

That means the new hybrid AWD system can instantly generate negative or positive torque to the front wheels during cornering. Honda reckons this will provide a handling experience unmatched by other AWD systems.

It’s said the new 3.5 litre V6 will offer 230kW of VTEC goodness, with 20kW of electric power available to each of the front wheels and an additional 30kW for the rear axle.

We will probably have to wait until 2015 before this concept becomes a production reality. We may also have to close our eyes and hope for the best when we learn the car will be developed and built in the US; can the Yanks really deliver an NSX worthy of the badge that will appeal to motoring enthusiasts across the globe?

Let’s hope so.

McLaren MP4-12C at the 2010 Goodwood FoS

McLaren MP4-12C

The official public reveal of the new McLaren MP4-12C supercar took place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last weekend. In fact, it was the first car to make the run up the hill this year, informally opening the show, as it were.

McLaren have released a short video of the weekend’s activities and the sound of the 3.8 litre V8 is rather tasty. From the footage shown Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton weren’t exactly hanging about, either.

Antony Sheriff, McLaren Automotive Managing Director, reckons Goodwood was the ideal place to debut the company’s newest road car, “The visitors to our stand were the perfect blend of car enthusiasts and potential customers; I’m delighted that we chose Goodwood Festival of Speed to unveil the 12C to the public. Two British Formula 1 World Champions were behind the wheel of the car as we led the field up the hill. A major landmark, delivered to McLaren’s high standards.”

More after the break.

Order of the Fenix

Fenix Automotive teaser

Imagine a 640hp V8 coupled to a chassis weighing some 200kg less than your average mid size hatchback. Reckon you might be interested? Thought so.

Welcome to Fenix Automotive, the latest motoring incarnation of Lee Noble. Yes, that knockabout Brit who loves strapping big motors to lightweight bodies. Having sold off his Noble Automotive outfit, Lee has embarked on a new challenge.

To begin that challenge Fenix have released these two renderings of their new supercar-with-no-name. Like previous Noble cars Fenix will build their bodies in South Africa, where testing is currently underway.

Lee Noble is excited, and looking forward to driving the car on familiar roads, “Our first prototype is now in build and development will start in around one month’s time,” said Lee. “We’ll be hot-weather testing the first prototype on the mountain roads around Port Elizabeth, South Africa, where the car will be manufactured. But I’m itching to get the car back to the UK where I can set it up on roads I know well.”

That 640hp, well 638hp to be precise, will be delivered courtesy of the 6.2-litre supercharged LS9 V8 found inside a Corvette ZR1. If that all sounds a bit too much to handle, then you can also opt for a 480hp version from the LS3 V8.

With a target kerb weight of 1200kg Lee Noble says his latest weapon should reach 0-160km/h in less than seven seconds. Blimey, that’s quick!

While there’s just these two images and some big horsepower claims to go on right now, I have to say, this is one very tasty looking supercar. Let’s just hope the invitation to view the company website which, at the time of writing, does not work isn’t a sign of things to come.
