Jeff Zwart, a 700hp 911 and Pikes Peak

Jeff Zwart at 2014 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

We all know the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car is a pretty good wepon of choice on a track. And now that Pikes Peak is tarmac all the way to the summit it’s probably a pretty good choice for that epic climb too.

But what if you bolt on some turbos, strengthen the engine internals and wind the boost up to 700hp? Thankfully Pikes Peak specialiast Jeff Zwart was kind enough to take on that investigative task for our benefit and these two videos are the result.

Sadly for Jeff he lost a fuel pump just after his ascent began. He drove on manfully—just listen the cacophony of whooshes—and came oh so close to breaking the magic 10-minute barrier. No doubt Jeff will back in 2015 and will cross off that bucket list item then.

VIDEO: Climb Dance in HD

Climb Dance in HD

Watching Climb Dance, in high definition, is there a better way to start the week?

We can’t think of many ways to top this, so sit back and strap yourself in for a crystal clear ride with one of rallying’s best, Ari Vatanen, as he man handles his Peugeot 405 T16 in the 1988 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Jean Louis Mourey originally released this film back in 1989 and the remastering of the footage was commissioned by Peugeot last year as part of its Pikes Peak assault which saw Sebastien Loeb smash the all-time record for the 20km course.

In 2013 Loeb reached the summit of an all-paved Pikes Peak in 8:13.878. Ari Vatanen’s 1988 time was 10:47.77.

VIDEO: Porsche 911 GT2 RS conquers Pikes Peak

Porsche 911 GT2 RS

Monster Tajima might have claimed an overall record at Pikes Peak last month, but Porsche also came away from the event with something to brag about. At the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT2 RS multiple Pikes Peak winner Jeff Zwart set a new record for a ‘street legal’ car.

After the break you can watch a brief highlights video which, for the most part, lacks the emotion and zip you expect from Pikes Peak. It’s still worth watching all the same, and the glowing exhaust is pretty cool. Afterwards, though, do yourself a favour and watch Climb Dance once more.

Peak season

Pikes Peak Hill Climb - Jeff Zwart

You may be aware the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb was held last weekend. The outright winner was Nobuhiro Tajima in his Unlimited category Suzuki SX4. His time was 10:11.490; still noone has cracked the 10 minute barrier for the 20km course, which starts at 9,390 feet and ends at 14,110 feet.

Records were broken during last weekend’s action, though, and one of them was the qualifying time in the 2WD Time Attack class. It was set by Jeff Zwart in a Porsche 997 911 GT3 Cup car. Not happy with that, Zwart went on to knock a massive 38 seconds off the full race record for the class, as well.

The video of Zwart’s quali run is available after the break. It’s pure and has just the single camera angle from inside the cockpit. And while it might be missing the frantic beauty of the legendary Climb Dance, or even the cinematic heights of last year’s Peak Performance, it’s still a damn entertaining piece of footage. Turn your volume up to 11 and revel in the glorious noises from that Porsche drivetrain.

UPDATE: More info on Zwart’s record-breaking weekend can be read HERE.
