Lightweight BMW M3 EVO continues testing

The lightweight BMW M3 “EVO” is less than a month from its official launch, so it’s no surprise to see a development mule being sent to the NÃ¼rburgring finishing school to undergo last minute testing.

Understood to fill the hitherto unknown gap between the regular M3 and the limited-run M3 GTS, the EVO is expected to use a variant of the 4.0 litre S65 V8 with power likely to sitâ€”you guessed itâ€”somewhere in between 309kW of the M3 and 331kW of the 4.4 litre GTS.

We’ll have all the official details of M3 EVO and its CFRP body panels, lightweight interior bits and more some time on 23 June 23, or perhaps a shortly after, allowing for time differences.

BMW M Festival in June to debut two models

In an interview on the BMW M-Power website Dominique Gargiulo, head of marketing for M automobiles at BMW GmbH, brings word the upcoming M Festival, to be held during the NÃ¼rburgring 24 hour race weekend in late June, will provide a chance for them to show off a couple of new cars.

Gargiulo states, “we will be taking the opportunity to exclusively present two brand-new M automobiles for the very first time â€“ for the enjoyment of our most faithful customers and fans.”

The reveal is scheduled for the Friday evening prior to the race start. Educated speculation leads us to believe the two cars will be a lightweight CSL-inspired M3 EVO saloon and a production-ready M5, which has only been shown in “concept” form to date.

The NÃ¼rburgring 24 hour race is already a great landmark on the motoring calendar, and now it looks like there’s even more to look forward to.
