Nik and Richard from Bad Obsession Motorsport are back with the latest episode of Project Binky, which is surely the internet’s coolest build project.

As you can see from the still above the bodywork of the old Austin Mini has been pretty well taken care of. There’s not a lot of the old car left. But don’t let that for one minute devalue this project, which is a testament to the engineering skills on display.

It’s taken almost a full year to get Project Binky to this stage and there’s still so much work to do. The good news for us is that we’ll be seeing a lot more of Nik and RIchard doing their thing. The bad news for them is it must feel like a project with no light at the end of an increasingly long tunnel.

It’s been two months since the last Project Binky update and when you see the amount of work that’s happened since Episode 4 and then think about how much is still left to do, well, it’s actually quite frightening.

The amount of respect and admiration these guys deserve can hardly be measured.

Richard and Nik are back with the latest update on Project Binky. Without giving anything away they’ve made made great progress and are in fine form.

“It finally dawns on us that it just might be possible to get the 3SGTE engine in the car and the project might just work!”

Our question, had we been organised enough to ask it in time for the Q&A session, would have been: “Did you spend any time making sure these two cars could actually fit together before you started, or are you really just working it out as you go along?”

That statement above kind of answers our question, we think, and scares us a little at the same time!

The best news is the view counts for all Project Binky episodes have really increased in the last month or so and these guys are finally getting some of the credit and attention they deserve.

Bad Obsession Motorsport updated us with Episode 3 of Project Binky on Christmas Day. As you know we’ve been enjoying a leisurely festive break as far as regular updates to AUSmotive are concerned, so a few days late here’s your chance to see how things are progressing in this very challenging, but very cool project.

This installment is all about fitting the rear suspension and sub-frame from the donor Celica GT4 into the tiny Austin Mini. If you’ve watched the first couple of episodes and wondered if these guys are making the challenge of merging these two cars together look harder than it really is, then this ep should put things right. What a ball ache!

Thankfully the lads are doing a sterling job and we can’t wait to see the end result.

Bad Obesession Motorsport is back with Episode 2 of its Project Binky experiment, where the aim is to fit a Celica GT4 drivetrain into the shell of an Austin Mini.

Actually this episode was first published a few weeks ago and we just remembered to check on progress. And the good news is that means we’re already much closer to the next update.

If you need to catch up we recommend you go back and watch Episode 1, where the team ends with the revelation that the Mini’s front-end doesn’t fit around the Celica’s engine. Who’d a thunk it! So, in this episode you’ll get to see how project leader, Nik Blackhurst, goes about getting his own way.

These guys deserve a much wider audience, so we reckon it would be a good thing for you to spread the word.

We’d like to introduce you to what we hope will become a YouTube sensation. Looking at the view count three weeks after this video was published it looks like there’s a way to go, but the ingredients are certainly there.

So what are those ingredients. We start with the crusty, rusty Austin Mini 1000 you see above and just out of picture is a slightly less crusty Toyota Celica GT4. Nik Blackhurst and Richard Brunning, from the appropriately named Bad Obsession Motorsport, have decided it might be a good idea to take the running gear from the Toyota and attempt to stuff it into the Mini.

The video you see after the break is the first episode in what we we expect will be a long, painful, but most of all, rewarding journey. From what we’ve seen so far it looks like Nik is the type of guy who doesn’t give up until he gets the result he wants.

This YouTube clip has elements of Wheeler Dealers, Beetle Crisis and An MG is Born, and is every bit as entertaining and educational. So tune in, and enjoy.
