Porsche 911 Carrera GTS

Porsche 911 Carrera GTS

Porsche has made the shock discovery that 0.01% of the sportscar market has been left unattended. Fear not, they are about to release the 408hp 911 Carrera GTS. This seems like the fifty-seventh variation of the 911 offered by Porsche and they say it is designed to close the gap from the regular Carrera to the GT3.

The GTS will make its worldwide premiere in Paris very soon and you can read all about it after the break.

Walter Rohrl loves his 911 GT3

Walter Rohrl loves his 911 GT3

Motorsport legend Walter Röhrl loves his new Porsche 911 GT3 so much he made this little video of himself with his car. He took his beloved GT3 to the Autodromo del Levante, in Italy’s south-east, for some one on one time. (It’s a nice looking track, actually.) Walter even got dressed for the occasion in full race attire.

But, then, he is in regular casual clothes staring out to sea, wondering if he and his GT3 will live happily ever after. I see, the GT3 can be used for road AND track. Road and track. Road and track. I think the clip gets this message across. Make the jump below and see for yourself.

VIDEO: Evo tests 911 GT3 RS and GT3 Cup

Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Chris Harris from Evo is fast becoming my new anti-hero. He’s doing many of the things we’d all love to be doing, and yet, I hate him at the same time! After the jump you can watch as he spends a few minutes showing off in a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, before really rubbing our noses in it as he takes control of a GT3 Cup car.

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup

Throw another Frankfurt debut on the barbie, this time, its from the racing masters at Porsche with their new 911 GT3 Cup.

Powered by a 3.8 litre flat six producing 331kW (450bhp) the 1200kg not-so-Porker is sure chew through racetracks with ease the world over. Based on the GT3 RS the Cup version is purpose built for the track, as the stripped out interior pics show.

Bodywork, suspension and most everything else has been given the once over to help withstand the rigours of motor sport.

Safe to say the 911 GT3 Cup should be a blast for those fortunate enough to snap one of these up for their own amusement.

2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

In January, before the Geneva Motor Show, Porsche gave us the new 911 GT3. Now, before the Frankfurt Motor Show, they are giving us the GT3 RS.

Stripped out, lightened and given more power, the GT3 RS is the weapon of choice for those serious about their track days. It’s just the way it is meant to be.

It probably has something to do with the 118bhp per litre produced from the flat six engine. For those not so quick with their sums, that means the 3.8 litre offers 450bhp (335kW) to play with. They’re certainly not the biggest numbers in town when it comes to über track cars, but in a GT3 RS, that’s enough to keep you busy.

Porsche don’t muck around with much fancy stuff when it comes to the RS, so there’s no double clutch PDK witchcraft here. Just a fool proof six speed self shifter. Similarly, no compromises were made with the wheels either, the rears are a foot wide and covered in 325/30 ZR19 tyres.

Mind, the dynamic engine mounts are both fancy-pants and elite. So, too, the revised PASM suspension set up, which has also seen the car’s track widened at the front and rear.

It looks like the only place that someone did clown around is with the bright red paint jar. But, kids, when you have a car with this much cred you can do whatever you like with your paint brush! Even if it does end up looking a bit like a French hatchback.

More after the jump.

2010 Porsche 911 GT3

The next release of the Porsche 911 GT3 will officially take place at the Geneva Motor Show on 3 March. European sales will commence in May.

If, like me, you’re unable to make the Geneva shindig, you’ll just have to make do with looking at the pretty pictures and reading the nice words Porsche have put together for us all.

Porsche, as ever, have kept the improvements under the skin. Of course, there are a few external tweaks, but not enough that anyone would really care, or notice immediately. Unlike its mad RSR brother, there’s no wild guards or cut out bonnets.

What this new 911 GT3 has, though, is more. More engine. More power. More grip. More speed. And, more gadgets. In this context Mies van der Rohe got it wrong, we like more. More is good.

Powered by a newly developed 3.8 litre flat six, the GT3 produces 320kW (435bhp), 15kW more than its predecessor. It will go from 0-100km/h in a wee 4.1 seconds, reaching 160km/h in a mere 8.2 seconds before reaching a v-max of 312km/h.

The white lab coats have also had a play with the electronic aids, and the stability and traction control systems can be switched off independently. According the press guff this gives “the driver unrestricted, individual control over the driving dynamics of his car”. Sabine Schmitz need not apply, it seems.

The lab coats didn’t stop there, either, as they found the time to add an optional lift system for the front axle, which can give sir 30mm more ground clearance at the touch of a button.

I want one!

UPDATE: Video footage of Walter Röhrl driving the GT3 can now be seen at AUSringers.com
