Porsche 918 Spyder brochure leaked

Porsche 918 Spyder brochure

Just a day after the Porsche 918 Spyder was previewed at a private event at the Nürburgring new images have emerged, believed to be from the 770hp hybrid’s official brochure.

Above you can see the 918’s stunning Martini livery explained. There’s also a pretty slick looking Salzburg Racing Design if you don’t like driving around in a free advertisement.

But if you really want to show off to your mates then we suggest you choose to have your 918 painted in either the Liquid Metal Grey or Liquid Metal Blue finish. Even if they think the colour sucks, they’ll surely be impressed by the €50,000 price tag!

Serious punters will tick the Weissach Package, which includes a six-point racing harness, alcantara and carbon fibre interior trim, lightweight brakes and front/rear dive planes. A 35kg weight saving is also achieved thanks to the removal of the air conditioning system, audio system and a few other interior bits and pieces. Actually, maybe the posers will still tick the Weissach box too.

Oh, as an added bonus, after you’ve checked out the extra pics after the break, there’s a nice spy video of the 918 shot on the roads surrounding the Nürburgring.

Porsche 918 Spyder provisional specifications

Porsche 918 Spyder in Martini livery

In addition to the gorgeous pictures of the Martini Racing inspired Porsche 918 Spyder prototype Stuttgart has released provisional specs for the car.

You’re a Porsche fan, right; so all you really need to know is the 918 has a 4.6 litre V8 and an electric motor on each axle. The end result is 770hp and a sub 3.0 second 100km/h sprint with a top speed in excess of 325km/h.

A reminder, too, that only 918 of these cars will be made. Orders commenced in March 2011 and deliveries are due to start late next year.

Porsche 918 Spyder in classic Martini livery

Porsche 918 Spyder in Martini livery

A little over a week since we saw a Porsche 918 Spyder in monochrome Martini livery, Porsche has gone the full monty by revealing four pics of the 918 in classic Martini Racing team colours.

We’re going to forget the specs of this car for a moment. And we’re not even going to mention the sub-7 minute 22 second Nürburgring lap time Porsche has in mind.

We’re just going to leave you alone with this spectacular looking piece of automotive design.

UPDATE: Four new pics have been added below.

Porsche 918 road car to be Spyder only

Porsche 918 Spyder

Autocar brings word that the road version of the awesome Porsche 918 will be offered in one configuration only—the Spyder version. It’s almost a year since we first saw the 918 Spyder at Geneva, but since then Porsche has shown off the tin-top 918 RSR. The latter model, shown at Detroit earlier this month, prompted speculation there would be both a Spyder version and a Coupé model of the road-going 918 as well.

According to Wolfgang Dürheimer, Porsche’s departing board member for development, “The road application of this car is the 918 Spyder. There is no decision taken that the coupé type will be available on the Spyder.

“We have always told people interested in the 918 Spyder that it will have a roof concept similar to the Carrera GT’s, with a lightweight carbonfibre panel. A closed car is better for motorsport, though.”

So, it’s open air for the road, with the possibility of a detachable roof of some sort, and a proper hard-top for racing. It’s expected we will see the 918 RSR racing at the Nürburgring 24 hour race later this year, but it’s uncertain if Porsche will be able to gain entry into other events or series in time for the 2011 season.

Dürheimer is on his way to a new three-way position that will see him calling the shots for Bentley, Bugatti and Volkswagen Motorsport. He’ll be a busy lad, then.

More Porsche 918 Spyder driving footage

Porsche 918 Spyder

With the recent appearance of footage showing the Porsche 918 Spyder in action it seems Porsche design boss Michael Mauer was feeling left out. But, as you can see from the pic above, Herr Mauer eventually got his way and found some one on one time with the 918 and some open road.

In the video below Mauer talks a little about the new Spyder and has a short squirt behind the wheel, in what must be close to being the best looking coupé to be revealed in 2010 so far.

Porsche 918 Spyder: Hear that sound

Porsche 918 Spyder

US publication Road & Track brings us a first sound bite of the Porsche 918 Spyder. Actually, looking at the screen cap above, you get a great sense of the car’s size and, of course, of its perfectly formed side profile. Its near on perfect!

The current 3.4 litre V8 in the prototype doesn’t sound half bad, either. Take the jump now to watch the clip. There’s a second clip, as well, which shows the 918 in action, albeit slowly.

Porsche 918 Spyder given green light

Porsche 918 Spyder

Porsche have confirmed recent rumours by approving full series production of the 918 Spyder hybrid supercar.

President and Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG, Michael Macht, says “Production of the 918 Spyder in a limited series proves that we are taking the right approach with Porsche Intelligent Performance featuring the combination of supreme performance and efficient drivetrain concepts.

“We will develop the 918 Spyder in Weissach and assemble it in Zuffenhausen. This is also a very important commitment to Germany as a manufacturing base.”

Earlier this year a 911 GT3R Hybrid came within two hours of winning the Nürburgring 24 hour race at its first attempt. Already speculation exists suggesting the 918 Spyder will race at the Ring in 2010. Those rumours just got some legs, and will no doubt increase with today’s news.

At this stage the decision to build the car is all Porsche are telling us. They say more news will follow in the coming months. The full statement from Porsche is available after the break.

VIDEO: Porsche hybrid drive promo

Porsche Hybrid promo

Following today’s earlier news about the 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid comes this 12 minute promo on Porsche’s hybrid technologies. Shown below, in two parts, the videos give a great introduction to the way Porsche is utilising a number of different theories to add hybrid systems to their cars via their Porsche Intelligent Performance initiative.

Also shown in the clip is the 911 GT3 R Hybrid and the Cayenne S Hybrid. Not sure about anyone else, but I am already counting down the days until the GT3 R Hybrid makes its race debut at the Nürburgring 24 hour race. Oh, there’s 74 sleeps to go, by the way.
