Is this going to replace the Ferrari 599?

Ferrari test mule

Apparently you’re looking at a new Ferrari model which will replace the 599 GTB Fiorano. Video footage of the car was recently captured at Ferrari’s own test track. The owner of the clip claims the new car is based on the 599 GTO and is currently being tested for mechanical enhancements. A new outer design is still being developed.

It’s also believed this model could feature a variation of the HY-KERS technology as previewed by Ferrari at Geneva earlier this year.

You can watch the video after the break and here’s a tip, turn the volume up to eleven!

Ferrari SA APERTA revealed ahead of Paris

Ferrari SA APERTA

Ferrari has lifted the lid on its latest 599 incarnation, otherwise known as the SA APERTA. The SA badging is a nod to Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina whose company has strong links with Maranello. Further honouring Pininfarina is the fact the SA APERTA will be limited to just 80 examples, acknowledging the 80th anniversary of the Italian styling house.

In basic terms this car is 599 GTOBarchetta” and features a 6.0 litre V12 engine. That engine is good for 670PS (500kW). A soft top cover is available, but it sounds like it will be more use for giggles than serious protection.

We’ll see more of this car at the Paris Motor Show in a week or so. Oh, if you would like to buy one of these stunning SA APERTAs, well, you can’t. They have already sold out.

VIDEO: Behind the wheel of a Ferrari 599 GTO

Ferrari 599 GTO

The Ferrari 599 GTO has been so eagerly anticipated by cashed up buyers that all 599 cars were sold before the car even had its official launch. So, then, videos from motoring journos are likely to be one of the few opportunities availble to try and experience just what it might be like to sit behind the wheel of Ferrari’s newest GTO and imagine what that 500kW 6.0 litre V12 would feel like.

Lucky for us, then, that UK mag Car has done just that and released a video of the 599 GTO lapping the Mugello circuit. You can check it out below after the jump. Let me know what you think. It’s hard to tell if it is the recording, maybe the sound has been muffled, but it seems like a fairly anodyne experience. Of course, I’d be sure to come to a different conclusion if it were me behind the wheel.

UPDATE: Steve Sutcliffe from Autocar has also filed a video review of the 599 GTO. He’s driven the 599XX, too, remember. After watching this second clip—this is more like it!

Ferrari 599XX sets new Nürburgring Nordschleife record

Ferrari 599XX - 6:58.16

Ferrari have broken the 7 minute barrier around the Nordschleife with their limited 599XX hyper car. The time set was 6 minutes 58.16 seconds. At the wheel was long time Ferrari factory test driver Raffele De Simone.

Ferrari claim this is a new lap record for production-derived sports cars. That’s a wink and a nod to the Radical SR8LM, which set a lap time of 6 minutes 48 seconds in August last year.

The 599XX features a specially developed 6.0 litre V12 engine, producing around 540kW of power, and is a track-only car based on the 599 GTB Fiorano. The 599XX also inspired the recently launched 599 GTO.

Let’s leave the semantics over rights to be claiming records to one side for a moment and simply revel in what is a truly stunning lap. Doesn’t matter who makes them, what their daily capabilities are, anything that can lap the Ring in under 7 minutes is a very special car.

Video of the lap can be seen after the jump, along with extra pics, all accessible as wallpaper-friendly 2000px super images.

Ferrari 599 GTO – official details

Ferrari 599 GTO

Wow!

If you are one of the 599 people who will get to buy this car, let me say I will be forever envious. Pencil in the 599 GTO as one of Ferrari’s all time great cars. It is Ferrari’s fastest road car ever released and it has to be one of the most purposeful and best looking models adorned with the Prancing Horse.

Based on the mega-awesome, but somewhat restrictive track only 599XX, this GTO model features a 6.0 litre V12 producing a stupendous 500kW (670bhp) along with a mighty 620Nm of torque. The transmission is an F1 inspired 6-speed box. The GTO has a dry weight of 1495kg and is capable of reaching 100km/h in 3.35 seconds and on to a v-max of 335km/h.

As expected Ferrari’s engineering boffins have done some serious work under the skin and the magnetorheological suspension system, well, it just has to be good with a name like that. Ferrari say the SCM2 system makes the car extremely responsive to driver inputs and offers sharper turn-in, precise cornering and quick exit speeds.

The 599 GTO has lapped Ferrari’s Fiorano text track in 1 minute 24 seconds which isn’t exactly hanging about. For more on the 599 GTO take the jump where you will find more pics and Ferrari’s press release. You can also see more on the Ferrari website. The car’s official reveal will take place at the Beijing Motor Show at the end of this month.
