Lamborghini Aventador hits YouTube – Part 2

Lamborghini Aventador

The Lamborghini Aventador will soon be doing the press rounds and reviews should be coming our way shortly. In the meantime, Lamborghini here’s another collection of YouTube clips, starting with a pair of 700hp beasts driving around Rome and in the countryside.

The Rome video is all romance and drama, the countryside clip, though, is where it’s at. At least it should have been. The driving footage is not that great and the soundtrack is not of V12 roaring, but orchestras dominating. Shame really.

Thankfully, the official Aventador commercial, also shown below, goes part way to showing the car off more appropriately. But, producers take note, we want to here that 6.5 litre V12 at maximum revs; is it that hard to work out?!

“He was just a cheeky bugger”

Barry Sheene

While any talk of motorsport biopics this year has centred around Ayrton Senna we recently came across another one that promises to be just as good. Simply called Legacy, it tells us the Barry Sheene story. Sheene was a lovable larrikin with talent and charisma to burn, his life was almost made for the silver screen.

You can get a taste of the film by watching the official trailer after the break. Released in 2007 it can now be found on DVD.

An adopted Aussie, Sheene gained entry into our hearts through his motorsport commentary and a series of television commercials for Shell. For old time’s sake, we’ve included one of those for you to enjoy too.

Sadly, the wretched disease cancer ended Barry Sheene’s life far too early. Almost a decade on, it confirms Sheene’s charm and quality that he still brings a smile to the face of those who remember him well.

“If you love driving, you’re gonna love this engine”

That’s the claim made by Paul Ferraiolo, Manager, Product Planning & Strategy, BMW of North America. He is referring to the new four cylinder engine that will power the BMW Z4 sDrive28i. In this brief clip he gives a rundown on the engine’s key benefits.

Jenson Button reveals desire to drive for Red Bull

Jenson Button cocks up

Jenson Button took centre stage yesterday in one of the more bizarre incidents in Formula One history. Well, actually, what he took was Sebastian Vettel’s parking spot when the two drivers came in to pit during the Chinese Grand Prix.

As world champion constructor Red Bull Racing has the first garage in pit lane. McLaren, Button’s team, has the next garage down. So, when Button and Vettel raced into pitlane mechanics, from both teams were out waiting for their drivers. Button charged straight into the Red Bull spot, paused a little, was frantically waved on by Red Bull’s lollipop man, and then moved ahead to his McLaren bay a few metres ahead. Vettel seemed unfazed and the Red Bull team reacted with precision by sending out their man ahead of Button.

So, did Button simply make a rookie error? Was it a devious ploy to distract his rival team? Or has Button (not so) secretly revealed his wish to drive for Red Bull Racing?

While you can, check out the clip after the break.

Targa Tasmania Video

Left four and a half after crest!

It’s a tough gig being a navigator in a competitive rally. Especially if your driver misses a call. Thankfully, in this footage from Targa Tasmania, driver Kym Illman and navigator Kirrilee Gentleman were not injured and we can indulge a few lighthearted moments. Although, let’s hope Kirrilee is wearing a HANS device when she next straps herself into a rally car.

The accident happened on the Riana stage and full footage of that stage leading up to the 190km/h crash can also be seen after the break.

Nico and Michael: Baby boomers

The Mercedes-Benz comedy team is at it again and has followed up the “Compliments” ad with this new clip “Decision”. It’s a nice lighthearted way to illustrate the intra team rivalry faced by Formula 1 drivers. Just a shame the Mercedes GP team isn’t performing as well as these ads are.

Do you want to know a secret?

Fancy a gander inside a secret BMW production line where all new prototypes are hand built? Lucky for you BMW USA has lifted the lid on this once secret facility, known as Plant Zero.

It’s a little bit nerdy, but hey, if you’re reading AUSmotive there’s every chance you’re a proper car nerd anyway.

We just want to know how they make that crazy 3D puzzle camouflage that you first see at around 2:15 in the video above. That looks pretty wild!

VIDEO: Don’t try this at home

Ouch!

Things didn’t go too well for Jimmy Keeney at the Global RallyCross Championships in California on the weekend. As you can see he made a bit of a hash of it. The accident happened after a jump, which seemed to go very well; until he landed.

The good news is that Keeney and his co-driver were unharmed. The Subaru WRX, on the other hand, suffered multiple cuts and abrasions. Keeney’s worst fears were confirmed when doctors advised the damage wouldn’t buff right out.

Check out video footage of the crash after the, erm, jump, I mean, break. Oh, that doesn’t work, either.

Nico and Michael: The drinks are on us

Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher unsurprisingly star in this new promo for Mercedes GP. However, it’s a cameo performance from two-time F1 champ Mika Hakkinen that steals the show. It’s not the first time Mercedes has used Mika in an ad, but this time he delivers a much better punch. Who said the Germans don’t have a sense of humor!

Ferrari FF “Car” crash

Jethro Bovingdon, Car magazine journo, has shown the pitfalls of video reviewing. Well, actually, his editors have, perhaps, unkindly shared with the world the very painful moment where Bovingdon crashed into a kerb in a brand new Ferrari FF. Fortunately it was nothing too serious, and, really, a good way to promote the full review that Car will publish next week.

Autocar names top five road tests

Steve Sutcliffe, Autocar

Steve Sutcliffe from Autocar presents the top five cars from a database of 5000 road tests (video available after the break). On the list they have included an original 1959 Mini, a 1961 Jaguar E Type, a 1981 Golf GTI, a 1994 McLaren F1 and a 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

In the first recap, featuring the Mini, it’s interesting when Sutcliffe includes a couple of lines from the 1959 test; a shame, really, he didn’t do that for the other four cars.

Overall, it seems like a reasonable enough list, if a bit skewed towards British engineering. But, Autocar is a British mag after all. So, what would cars would you put in your top five?
