Vauxhall UK offers “lifetime” warranty on all new vehicle sales

Vauxhall lifetime warranty

Vauxhall in the United Kingdom are now offering a limited lifetime warranty on all new cars sold from 1 August. In theory, a new Vauxhall could remain under full factory warranty forever, the only caveats being the warranty expires after the car has covered 100,000 miles (160,000 kilometres) and it only applies to the first owner.

Managing Director of Vauxhall Motors, Duncan Aldred, explains the company’s new found confidence, “With the Vauxhall Lifetime Warranty, we are making a strong statement of confidence in the quality of our products and a clear intent to provide the very best customer service in the UK.”

In Australia factory warranty has been used as a strong marketing feature by brands like Hyundai and Mitsubishi to name a few. Will we ever see a “lifetime” warranty offered locally?

Inside Vauxhall’s new Astra

2010 Vauxhall/Opel Astra

In May images of the new Vauxhall/Opel Astra were leaked, then officially released. At the time no interior images were revealed, leaked or otherwise. Well, now they have been.

It’s still a mish mash of button overload, like previous Astras, but the new model has been given a major overhaul and, aesthetically at least, is a vast improvement over earlier iterations.

Full of “clever storage solutions” the new Astra is aiming for a more premium feel and the product planners claim to have used higher grade materials inside to aid that cause.

It’s still too early to say if we will see the new Astra in Australia wearing a Holden badge so—short of getting yourself to the Frankfurt Motor Show in September for the car’s first public showing—you’ll simply have to look at these pics to be the judge. 2010 Opel Astra – official pics

2010 Opel Astra

As is always the case, once material has been leaked manufacturers are quick to get official images out and about. And Opel, showcasing their new Asrta, is no different. Included here are nine official pics (click on each one to load wallpaper sized versions) and a press statement from Vauxhall UK.

There’s still no interior pics, but Vauxhall says they will be released soon. The new Astra will make its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and will go on sale shortly after.

As noted yesterday, I quite like the look of this new Astra. Although, while some, including Vauxhall, say it is inspired by its bigger brother, the Insignia, I say it’s a homage to its mid-size berthren. Or, in Gen-Y speak, its a mash up of current design cues.

There’s a bit of Mazda 3 in the lower front grille and C-pillar. There’s some Golf VI in the strong shoulder line. A bit of Audi A3 in the lighting treatment, especially at the front. And, oddly enough, some Nissan Murano in the rear hatch badge treatment. No matter, though, because as an overall result it gets the AUSmotive tick of approval.

Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst S wallpapers

Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst S

Walkinshaw Performance have taken a standard VXR8 and bolted on a big whiny supercharger. The result? A Bathurst S special edition with very tidy 560hp and 715Nm or torque. (That’s around 417kW). Stupendous!

Below are a selection of wallpaper sized images for you to enjoy, simply click on each image to load the larger version.

The Bathurst S, which costs £44,985 (AU$99,000), will be limited in number and sold throughout the United Kingdom at selected Vauxhall dealerships. There’s also a comparatively lightweight non-Supercharged Bathurst model available, but who would want that?

To help cope with that massive power the Bathurst editions have six-pot AP Racing calipers up front, and four-pots on the rear. Also attempting to keep things in control are custom designed Walkinshaw coilovers.

There is an optional trick exhaust system that can be run in Street or Optimum modes. Clearly, the Optimum setting, with an extra 10dbA (102dbA total) is the default option here.

All those add ons are worthwhile extras, its a shame the same can’t be said for the overtly tacky badges. You could buy something better from your local Autobarn outlet.

There’s 10 more 2000px super images after the jump, along with the Vauxhall press release.
