Harry drives a Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II

Harry Metcalfe with his Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II

Harry Metcalfe is a pretty cool dude. Not only was he the original founder of Evo magazine, but he has an extraordinary garage of seriously cool cars. He’s known for his Lamborghini Countach, but he has a lot more to show the world than that.

Which brings us to this wonderful Lanca Delta Integrale Evo II. It’s a rallying and hot hatch icon and Harry raids his old Evo back catalogue to add this clip to his Harry’s Garage Youtube channel.

Metcalfe’s style is calm and full of details. It’s proper car nerd stuff! You’re going to enjoy this.

Petrolicious admires the Lancia Stratos

Lancia Stratos

If you love the Lancia Stratos—and let’s face it, who doesn’t—then we suggest you follow the source link below where you’ll be greeted by the first class images and words assembled by Petrolicious:

The Stratos’s details are no less interesting. In Stradale trim the car has virtually no chrome (just like the HF) yet it retains the functional hood louvers and can frequently be found sporting the hood and engine cover latches. The most interesting detail however, is the Bertone logo prominently displayed on the B-pillar. Framed by the two symmetrical cutlines jutting up towards it, it’s literally impossible to miss. I have always loved how Italian car companies tend to recognize the carrozzerias responsible for clothing their mechanicals with a fender badge or something similar, but to be featured so prominently is unusual and is fitting for such an impressive design.

VIDEO: 1955 Belgian Grand Prix

1955 Belgian Grand Prix

Shell is celebrating its associtation with the 2013 Belgian Grand Prix by transporting us back in time to the 1955 race. They do this by making available a 30 minute documentary of the race and we suggest you find the time to watch before tonight’s instalment if you can.

It’s fair to say a lot has changed in Formula 1 in the last 58 years, as the image above shows. We’re sure you’ll recognise it but in case you don’t the photo is taken at the old pit complex, on the downhill run after La Source and you can see Eau Rouge and Radillion in the background.

Yes, that is a dog running across the track. No, there is no barrier between the track and pit lane. And, yes, it is raining at Spa! Although, that photo was taken during qualifying and the race was run in brilliant sunshine.

The race was completed on the old 14km Spa-Francorchamps layout and only Blanchimont, La Source and Eau Rouge/Radillion remain from the original layout. You can compare the old and current circuits HERE.

All that’s left to do now is sit back, relax and enjoy finding out how Juan Manuel Fangio went about claiming his fifteenth F1 victory.

“The best day of my working life.”

Chris Harris with Markku Alen

When Chris Harris makes a statement like “This might just be the best day of my working life,” you know he must have done something special. Thing is, though, he did not drive a single car in his latest piece for Drive.

We’ll not spoil it for you, the category tag has given you a clue and if you know your stuff you’ll recognise the bloke behind the wheel in the image above. And that’s just a taster.

It’s a great vid this one, and we’d be remiss if we didn’t thank Pirelli for creating the opportunity for it to happen.

New Stratos – limited build run likely

New Lancia Stratos

Since the middle of last year the world has watched the development of the New Stratos. Word on the car’s official website states that at least 40 interested parties have expressed their desire to have a New Stratos parked in their garage.

Further heightening expectations is news that companies, as well as current co-creator Pininfarina, have offered to build a limited run of the retro-inspired sports car.

As expected, though, the New Stratos won’t come cheaply. With the current level of interest it’s predicted you’ll need €100K (AU$135K) to bring your own Ferrari F430 donor car, only to have to offer up another €300K (AU$405K) to turn into a New Stratos. That’s a grand total of AU$540K—it would want to be a bloody good car!

New Stratos – The presentation

New Stratos

The official, invite only, launch of the New Stratos took place almost two weeks ago now. And while tech specs and performance data has been provided, not much else has been said about the presentation of the car. The location for the launch was the Paul Ricard circuit in France and if you’d like to see what went down you can see a brief highlights clip after the break.

Oh, will the New Stratos be put into limited production? It’s the question everyone wants an answer to. Well, all we know is, “If demand is sufficient, this question may soon have an answer as well.”

There has been talk of a GT2 version of the New Stratos, so who knows, maybe a run of 25 road cars or so will happen.

New Stratos – The performance

New Lancia Stratos

The performance figures of the New Stratos have just been published on the official website and join last week’s technical specs. So just how fast is a custom-built supercar that weighs less than 1250kg with 375kW on tap?

  • 0–100km/h: 3.3 seconds
  • 0–200km/h: 9.7 seconds
  • Top speed: 274km/h

Aside from quoting a power-to-weight ratio of less than 2.3kg/hp not much else is given away.

Luca di Montezemolo signs off on New Stratos

New Stratos

Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo was given the keys to the New Stratos and figured the Fiorano test track was a pretty good place for a drive. He liked it so much he decided to autograph it.

Dario Benuzzi, long-term Ferrari test driver, also had a play and suggested a few tweaks ahead of the car’s imminent launch at Paul Ricard.

Pininfarina hands over New Stratos

New Lancia Stratos

Turin. Monday, November 8th, 2010. Draped in black cloth, the New Stratos stands waiting in a Pininfarina production hall for its new owner. Work on the details – painting, polishing, etc. – has been underway up until the final hour. Now, at handover time, the automobile is near perfect.

So reads the text on the Handover page of the New Stratos website. The New Stratos will be presented to international media at the Paul Ricard Circuit in just under two weeks from now. During that time the owners will be finalising the performance numbers for the car.

Since our last update some technical info has also been published. Notably, the chassis New Stratos is some 200mm shorter than the Ferrari F430 on which it is based, while the body work has been reduced by 330mm. A 40mm thick steel roll cage helps give the car its high rigidity.
