Will the Alfa Romeo Giulia really look this good?

Alfa Romeo Giulia rendering

Car magazine brings word, and renderings, of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia predicted for release in 2014. It will replace the 159 and lead Alfa’s charge in the mid-size segment. Based on these com-gen images if it looks as good as this, it will sure create some waves among the Passats and 3 Series of the world.

The Giulia will be built on the Fiat-Chrysler CUSW platform (C segment, US compatible, Wide) which is about to spawn the Dodge Dart.

Alfa hopes the Giulia will help them reach 400,000 global sales in 2014. That’s a sizable 150% increase on current annual figures.

Alfa Romeo to give 4C new 224kW engine

Alfa Romeo 4C Concept

Alfa Romeo has announced details of a new 1.8 litre four cylinder engine which will be launched in 2013. Suitable for both longitudinal and transverse layouts the engine will have an impressive 224kW (300hp). It’s expected this new powerplant will find its way beneath the gorgeous curves of the 4C sportscar (due in Australia by 2014).

Currently, the 4C Concept is powered by an existing “200hp+” 1750 turbo four and has a published body weight of 850kg.

The new 1.8 litre will feature all aluminum construction and its power will be achieved through the use of a high-efficiency turbocharger. Alfa say the engine will set new benchmarks in performance and economy.

Alfa Romeo 4C expected in Australia by 2014

Alfa Romeo 4C concept

The stunning Alfa Romeo 4C will be on sale in Australia by 2014 according to a report published by GoAuto.

Currently on show in Frankfurt in a spectacular ‘fluid metal’ body colour, the 4C has been confirmed for RHD production by Alfa Romeo CEO Harald Wester.

“Alfa Romeo is going to be present in all markets in the world. If there’s enough interest in this kind of special-edition supercar it will be either left or right-hand drive, but there will definitely be a right-hand drive,” he told journalists in Frankfurt.

Neville Crichton, Ateco Automotive Governing Director, spoke to Australian journalists in Frankfurt and said he expects the 4C to be on sale down under by 2014.

It’s understood the 200hp 850kg sportscar will be a replacement for the Brera. If the 4C can be positioned at the same pricepoint of around $65,000 then Alfa Romeo will likely have a worldwide phenomenon on their hands. We reckon they may well struggle to meet demand.

Alfa Romeo 4C Concept given a makeover

Alfa Romeo 4C Concept

Alfa Romeo has given its stunning 4C Concept a makeover before it hits the runway at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This new ‘fluid metal’ colour shceme really does look the goods and shows off the curves of the car to perfection.

Perhaps the 4C is a bit too fussy around its mid shoulder line. But with over 200hp and a confirmed weight of just 850kg we can forgive any extravagance in styling.

There’s a few more pics after the break and we’ll update you with any more that come our way after the Frankfurt show starts in a couple of weeks.

Alfa Romeo 4C teases the heart and mind

Alfa Romeo 4C teaser video

A new teaser video for the 2012 Alfa Romeo 4C has emerged to remind us that this is one car that stirs the passions of the heart and satisfies the demands of the mind. Can you really ignore the 4C’s submissive curves and its tantalising spec sheet?

It’s a shame the video (available after the break) has its aspect ratio out of kilter, but it still provides a great taste of what is to come from this Boxster-bashing Italian.

To remind you, the 4C will tip the scales at a feather light 850kg and be powered by a 1750cc turbo four cylinder, good for 200hp plus. The chassis has been sourced from the KTM X-box, so razor sharp responses are all but guaranteed. And, of course, it will be rear wheel drive as well.

Do want.

VIDEO: Zagato TZ3 Stradale in the garage and on the road

Here’s a brief video showing the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale by Zagato. The clip starts off in Zagato’s factory near Milan and ends up with some tame driving footage. Looks like they may have been taking photos and capturing video for promotional puposes.

There’s only going to be nine of these cars built, so while it would have been great to see the driver push the limits of the Dodge Viper ACR running gear in the TZ3 Stradale, we may have to wait until the customer gets their car first.

Zagato TZ3 Corsa and Stradale

Zagato TZ3 Corsa and Stradale

Italian design house Zagato is celebrating the centenary of Alfa Romeo by releasing a pair of retro-inspired TZ3 models. The Corsa model (pictured top) is a one-off, paying homage to Alfa’s racing history. The Stradale will see a small run of nine models and uses a Dodge Viper ACR chassis, including its 450kW 8.4 litre V10. The Corsa is based on Alfa’s own 8C Competizione—a car currently copping a pasting from the Old Stig—and is fitted with a 4.2 litre V8.

The connection between Zagato and Alfa itself is 90 years strong and these new TZ3s are great interpretations of former classics. There’s more pics after the break, as well as the official press release from Zagato.

VIDEO: Alfa Romeo 4C Concept

The Alfa Romeo 4C Concept was one of the clear stars of the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. So most readers will be pleased to see this short film released by Alfa showing the preparation of the 4C prior to the show.

To refresh your memory the 4C has the madness of a KTM X-Bow under the skin, enveloped by a series of stunning Behind the driver’s seat rests 150kW of turbocharged power, which sounds modest until you realise there’s just 850kg of weight to shift.

What’s not to like?

VW teases Alfa with promise of Porsche engines

Volkswagen-Alfa Romeo-Fiat

The simmering saga of Volkswagen chasing Alfa Romeo skirt continues with the German giant dangling a big Porsche carrot in front of Alfa Romeo. That carrot takes the form of a rumoured plan for future Volkswagen-owned Alfa Romeos to use Porsche engines.

Although, Alfa’s current owners, Fiat, are still playing hard to get and are clearly not amused with Volkswagen’s latest flirting, telling Autocar, “We shut the door in their faces and now they’re trying to get in the window.”

In reply, VW boss Ferdinand Piech says, “Volkswagen has time.”

Geneva 2011: Alfa Romeo 4C Concept

Alfa Romeo 4C Concept

This is the Alfa Romeo 4C Concept. It was expected, but now that we see it we’re safely going to predict this will be the “it” car of the 2011 Geneva Auto Salon. At this stage Alfa has only released a few com-gen images, but that’s enough to make you stand up, take notice and say “wow!”

After you’ve come to grips with the car’s curvaceous good looks you then have to take in the 4C Concept is a rear-engined, rear-wheel drive sportscar. It might sound a bit weak that a “supercar” is powered by a relatively modest 1750cc turbocharged four cylinder engine producing an equally modest 200hp+. The real party trick of the 4C, of course, is that it will weigh no more than 850kg.

Precise details are yet to be announced by Alfa, but with a dual-clutch TCT transmission they reckon the 4C will reach 100km/h in less than five seconds, before reaching a v-max beyond 250km/h.

Perhaps the best part of the press release below is the last sentence: “This car is not simply an exercise in style created for the Motor Show; it will be on sale in 2012 and is set to reinforce Alfa Romeo’s global growth.”

UPDATE: More pics from the floor at Geneva have been added below.

Is this the new Alfa Romeo 4C GTA?

The caption to this pic translates as “4C, the dream Alfa.” Even with a dodgy fold in the middle of the pic, the Geneva-bound 4C GTA concept car looks the business. As far as we can tell this image was first posted to the AlfaMitoClub.it forum yesterday.

The 4C GTA is based on the ball-tearing KTM X-bow and is expected to be powered by a 250hp turbo charged four cylinder engine. With a miserly 800kg kerb weight the rear-engine, rear wheel drive 4C GTA is sure to excite, and possibly create, a whole new generation of Alfa Romeo fans.

Even the expected price of the 4C GTA is relatively exciting, with the UK market expecting a £40K price tag. Roughly the same price as an entry level Porsche Boxster. Dream Alfa indeed.
