After having hopes raised last month, it seems the Volkswagen Scirocco is not on the cards for Australian customers after all.
Continuing the on again, off again saga is an article on The Motor Report quoting VW Aus marketing boss Karl Gehling, “We like the car but cannot bring it here. We are still looking at it but have no plans to release it in Australia.”

Lets hope this is another ‘no 3 door GTI’s in Australia’ moment.
Haha, yeah, and that they only bring in one United Grey Scirocco as a special order.
The country will be flooded with em. More UG Roccos than Commodores.
I’m suprised to see this, as a mate sent a query to VWA a week or so ago asking about the Scirocco, and was told (by a customer service rep) it was “currently undergoing the various tests to ensure the vehicle is able to withstand the Australian conditions”, and if passed it’ll be out on Australian shores Late 2009, early 2010.
Another case of one hand not talking to the other i’m assuming!

My understanding is the decision to bring the Scirocco to our shores rests solely with Volkswagen Australia.
[…] it seems unlikely that we will see the Scirocco in Australia in the short term, there are enough whisperings around […]
