English mag Auto Express has just put the 250kW all-wheel drive Audi RS3 on the drag strip against the 250kW rear-wheel drive BMW 1 Series M Coupé. Two German pocket rockets; it’s a race both cars were made for.
It was a dry day with great conditions for a 400m shootout; 7-speed S tronic against 6-speed manual, which do you think was quickest? Watch the video after the break to find out.
For added background Auto Express has also filed individual reviews of both cars in the past and we’ve included those below for you as well.

Interesting video. Give it a bit more tarmac and the 1M would have overtaken the RS3.
Has anyone else noticed you can buy an RS3 in NZ.

Why not here??????
Because NZ is silly enough to trust a measly little body like EuroNCAP with crash test results, haha. Whereas we (Australia) would require the RS3 to undertake new crash testing to assess the new CF front guards.
Hardly worth Audi sacrificing a new RS3 for the limited sales they could probably pull for a $100K hatch.
Well, that’s my understanding anyway.
More importantly Shane, the RS3 is only $99k in NZ (S3 S-tronic is $83k)! Translate that to the price of our S3, it would mean that the RS3 would only be $85K??? Why can’t I have one! Damn you ADR!
ADR=Great Big Local Industry Protectionist Tax !
great – I really need a $100K drag car and was wondering what to get. thanks autoexpress that was really useful…..
Audi RS3 looks much decent and sporty than the BMW M Series. BMW in this model has some jaw sort of looks that appeal to very few only.
@Audipage, yeh they won’t sell either, hahahah
