Ferrari launches auction for earthquake victims

Ferrari has announced it will auction a number of items to raise money in response to the recent earthquakes in northern Italy. They’re not messing about either. Up for grabs will be a very exclusive and track-only 599XX Evo hyper car valued at around €1m (AU$1.27m).

Supporting the headline act will be a complete V8 Formula One engine, racing overalls and helmets signed by Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, and a suite of other racing memorabilia.

UPDATE: Ferrari’s has been in touch to let us know they have upgraded their offer; after previously stating they would auction a plain old rare 599XX, they will now put up a more extreme and very, very rare 599XX Evo up for sale.

Ferrari is coming to the aid of the victims of the two deadly earthquakes that have rocked its home region of Italy, Emilia-Romagna, with an on line auction next week that will include an ultra-rare million dollar Ferrari 599XX, the rolling laboratory supercar that has been developing technology for the next generation of Ferraris.

In the days leading up to the auction next week, www.ferrari.com will dedicate a section to this important initiative which sets out to contribute a significant sum of money to those families who have lost loved ones and those who need to rebuild their lives.

The auction will include important and rare items, such as a Ferrari 599XX, the laboratory racing car with a commercial value over €1 million/$1.3 million. There will be a strong Formula 1 theme, starting with a complete V8 engine from a Ferrari Formula 1 car, along with racing suits and helmets donated by the Scuderia’s drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, as well as numerous items of memorabilia from the works racing cars from past seasons.

Also featuring in the auction will be a selection from the Ferrari Store, including Prancing Horse watches.

As soon as news about the earthquakes came out, Ferrari clients and collectors from around the world spontaneously contacted the Maranello headquarters to offer their contribution. Once again the generosity of Ferrari’s enthusiasts will enable the company to provide support to those most hit by the tragedy. A demonstration of solidarity that, in recent years, has contributed to the reconstruction in Abruzzo after the earthquake, as well as the building of a school in Fukushima in Japan after last year’s disaster.
