Volkswagen’s high performance Passat R36 has recently been spotted in Sydney showrooms and on the roads (see more on Flickr). The R36, the third in the ‘R’ range, was created by Volkswagen Individual, and follows the Golf R32 and the Touareg R50. With a 220kW (300hp) 3.6 litre six cylinder direct injection petrol engine the R36 sedan is capable of reaching 100km/h from standstill in just 5.6 seconds, while the seriously cool wagon takes 5.8 seconds. This makes the R36 the fastest accelerating Volkswagen available in Australia. The uber Passat is available with a six-speed DSG transmission only and also comes fitted with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all wheel drive system.
The instruments and middle console of the R36 are finished in a dark brushed aluminium. The leather steering wheel features an R36 logo in the lower spokes and gear shift paddles as standard. In addition, the Passat R36 will be delivered with a sport seating system together with electric 12-way adjustment and electro-pneumatic side bolsters, R36 door sill trims and new instrument lights (white illumination).
Pricing for the sedan starts at $64,990 while the wagon starts at $66,990.

My friend bought this car recently and I am very impressed by it. For the money, it’s incredible!
It’s a volkswagen, give it enough time, the timing belt will break, the windows will fall into the doors, and you’ll spend most of your time at the dealer having recalls done. but it does look nice, for the money.

For James, 1 Sep 2009: Volkswagens aren’t build like they used to in the 60’s to the 80’s, now they are better build, better materials, better engines, better tecnologies, Americans wish they ever made a good engine like the 2.0 TDI from VW, of course it isn’t a Mustang V8 with 400hp bla bla bla etc etc, but it is a very good constructed engine and low consumptions with very low CO2 emitions (beat that GM…) never talk trash about a car that you’ve never owned…I rest my case…
