It seems to be the year of winning your home event. Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg won their home grands prix in Formula 1. Now it’s Jari-Matti Latvala’s turn and he got to spray the champagne first after he won Rally Finland.
Sebastien Ogier will be hoping he can do the same when Rally France rolls around in October. He might just need to as well. Ogier is still very much the man to catch, with a 44 point lead over Latvala, but there’s still five rallies up for grabs.
After the break there’s over 70 images from the Finnish forests and, of course, plenty of spectacular “yumps”!

I can’t remember whether Lewis lives in Switzerland or Monaco these days, but either way he hasn’t won a home event this year – one has banned motorsport for 60 years and the other was won by the other local hero Nico Rosberg.
Nicolas Prost and Benoît Tréluyer got home race wins in the LM24 though.
It seems hatch backs are the ultimate rally car
Geez Dave, do you get paid to be a pedant, or does it just come naturally, lol?
Great pics btw, thanks.
Alex on hatch backs being the ultimate rally car, year ago when Subaru where deciding on whether to continue rallying the 4 door sedan or going with the 4 door hatch, they chose the 4 door hatch purely because it was better aerodynamically for rallying according to their testing. But who knows.
Amazing images. Good to see at least one Aussie motoring website giving some WRC love to readers.
I wish these manufacturers would offer special homologation versions of these hatchback to the public for purchase. Say 1.6 turbo AWD layouts. At least for the FIA to enforce some rules to cars competing in WRC that customers must be able to buy the models raced in the same basic layout.
