Let’s hope it goes better than last time.
That’s Peter Dumbreck flipping his Mercedes CLR during the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans. Mark Webber was in the same team and famously suffered the same fate during qualifying. Mark flipped his car again during the morning warm-up session. His car was withdrawn and he did not start the race.
This weekend, with Porsche, is Mark’s first return to competition at Le Mans since his DNS in 1999.

I remember reading one article that suggested that it was Mercedes management who requested the front grill to be shaped/styled into the shape of their road car, and it was the air catching under the front grill that lifted the front of the car enough for air to catch the front air dam into the air. I’m not sure if there is any truth in that. However, as long as that same management decision is made at Porsche, I think Mark will be right 😉
Although, the accident in Practise yesterday was horrendous, that Audi was destroyed, although kept Douval safe… Crazy stuff.
I thought it was more the flawed undertray design which was at fault with the CLR.
Porsche had a similar problem with the final version of the 911 GT1 (their last outright win contender) where a couple went nose up into a backwards flip.
