It’s only a couple of weeks since Subaru raised hopes that they were about to, finally, release a very nice looking WRX. Alas new, if not unexpected, evidence suggests the stunning WRX Concept could be little more than a cock tease.
To be fair it’s a little hard to tell under all that camouflage, but this prototype 2014 Impreza WRX, or possibly even a WRX STi, seen lapping the Nürburgring doesn’t appear to resemble too much of what we saw at the New York Auto Show.
Please Subaru, do it right, just press copy on the concept model you’ve already teased us with.

Comparing them both they look totally different irrespective of the camouflage.
Yep you’re right Pat. Hopefully Subaru doesn’t waste that great concept design.
Are you sure it isn’t an Evo???
Subaru’s resources are limited, so it’s unlikely, but it would be nice if they’re doing two body styles, – a sedan (as seen here) and a four-door “coupe” (like the concept).
Unfortunately, I suspect that’s wishful thinking. Subaru’s vision-impaired bean counters seem to have the final say on styling, so it’s sure have been force-fed ugly pills prior to release.
I like it. I have always liked the current boxy looking Impreza, so with the flared guards to beef it up a touch I think it will actually look very good in the flesh.
Also there is a video floating around to go with these photos where it looks very composed and has a nice boxer burble to boot.
@WAY; that is the first thing I said when I seen the images ahaha!

My dealer in Aus tells me that the concept, shown in three states of Aus recently, will very closely mirror the next WRX in 2014. Subaru could have a winner if so.
Let’s hope so!
