The 991-based Porsche 911 GT3 will be revealed to the world at the Geneva Motor Show. Word on the street says a Porsche dealer with loose lips has leaked a few GT3 details.
First, the good news, of sorts. The 991 GT3 will be powered by a 450hp 3.8 litre flat six able to reach 100km/h in only 3.5 seconds. Reportedly the new 911 GT3 can lap the Nürburgring in 7 minutes 34 seconds. According to the unofficial database on Wikipedia, that would be a six second improvement over the 997.2 GT3, but still around 15 seconds slower than the Nissan GT-R.
It’s also expected the new GT3 will feature a revolutionary rear-wheel steering system. What is new and revolutionary about that we shall have to wait and see.
Now, the bad news. Earlier reports the 991 911 GT3 would drop it’s manual transmission in favour of a PDK ‘box appear to be accurate. I don’t care that I’ll never be able to afford a GT3, I’m still going to be pissed off at Porsche if they don’t offer a manual box in their most desirable car!

Remember how I said previously that the RS will be different with the old Mezger and manual? I still believe in that…or maybe I just want it to be the case! Not that I have an issue with PDK. PDK is the most intuitive auto box of any kind (in auto mode), and in manual mode it is super fast.
Yeah, I’ve no doubt the PDK would be fantastic, but that’s not the point. 😛
Well that’s it then. Confirms the inevitable death of the manual transmission. Brings a tear to my eye….
I’m not convinced by the future of the car for manual-loving enthusiasts. I love my manual, changing to an auto would be a step down.
I’m crying if its true
Rear wheel steer doesn’t work. Many many manufacturers have tried it and always when it came to racing applications it would be disabled. Not sure what Porsche are thinking here. Maybe they just want to include something to make people believe the new GT3 is different enough for an upgrade.
Porsche lost its soul when they ditched air cooled engines and hydraulic steering. Now they have truly died with the death of the manual gearbox. Next they’ll introduce a switch called AUTO ZEE PILOT and you won’t even have to steer any more. What a shame. The GT3 use to be such a real drivers car.
The last great Porsche was the 993, the rest are just not worthy. Don’t care how fast they can lap some circuit in some far away forest or how quick they can auto pilot to 100.
I disagree, Rod. Porsche lost its soul when they stopped using horses in front of their carts. Furthermore, I might as well give up because I lost my soul when I started to develop too. The past is where its at, man. Thats where I want to live.
FWIW, I would rather manual, too.
Rod, the last great Porsche is a 993? Have you driven any other Porsche produced since the 993?
