Taking a short break

Queenstown, New Zealand

A quick note to say your usually reliable AUSmotive editor will be taking a short break. We apologise for the lack of updates in the last few days. Normal service should resume in around a week from now.

Just a shame the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series is expected to be revealed while we’re away. C’est la vie!

Have just come back from driving the very road in the image above (Queenstown-Glenorchy). It’s easily one of the best roads I’ve ever experienced. At 48km it’s not too much of a stretch to compare it to two laps of the Nürburgring.

I was there in August – It was cheaper than skiing in Victoria and faster to fly there from Adelaide than drive to Melbourne. It is an amazing place. I too drove to Glenorchy – the snow grit and wet patches were sketchy but the hire car was insured 😉 Compared to Queenstown there was hardly a soul there. Tip of the hat too – they lost a lot of ANZAC’s from the town as well.

Liam,

Enjoy the South Island where the men are men and the sheep are worried…
To prove you are actually there, can you drive past 90 Thompson St and take a photo of the front yard, cheers.

Oh, and for other exciting driving roads see if Skipper’s Canyon Rd is open, don’t read the warning sign at the start of the road, that will only put you off. And the driveway into Chard Farm Winery in the Gibbston Valley isn’t to be missed, gives you a bird’s eye view of the shotover…

And on a more sensible note, Lunch in the courtyard at Amisfield winery can’t be beat.
