A little piece of you may die watching this video

Porsche 991 911 GT3 with PDK spied

Apparently the video below features the 991-based 911 GT3. It’s only short and you don’t see many moving pictures. But it’s what your ears tell you that is most alarming. And that’s the sound of a PDK transmission.

PDK stands for Porsche Doppelkupplung and it may as well be a bunch of swear words. No doubt Porsche does all it can to ensure its twin-clutch gearbox is one of the best money can buy, but a GT3 just has to have a manual box.

We know the onslaught of twin-clutch transmissions is inevitable, but for us this is at least as big as when Porsche switched the 911 from air cooling to water.

I have always loved Porsche, I found their mechanical engineering to be one of their best draw cards. This is most likely the last time I will say this of a Porsche. RIP Porsches pre 2012.

I’m with you Lima. I would take a stick model over a PDK any day, even if it is slower. It is the feeling of having mechanical sympathy (or lack of) with the engine, and being in control. Nothing beats a 5th down to 2nd shift into turn 2 at Eastern Creek and matching the revs pefectly!

Call me a luddite but I love my manual transmissions on race / sports cars. By the same token I love the fantastic 6/7/8 speeds autos on my daily drivers

Is it just me or have they used the wider shell for this car? Also, the rear wing looks really odd and afterthought. Hope this isn’t the real thing!
