You never forget your first love

Chris Harris drives his 1986 BMW E28 M5

In his latest video Chris Harris reveals one of the first cars he lusted after as a child was the E28 BMW M5. He says at the time he could barely imagine sitting in one. And now he has one all of his own. He still loves it.

Perhaps it’s the comparatively simple nature of 1980’s engineering which has allowed for a more casual approach from Harris. This, we think, is one of his best Drive videos yet.

It show that this is a car he genuinely has passion for, rather than the usual ‘woah I’m in a super car and I have to like it’ presentation is more common.

Were they ever brought out to Australia? I don’t recall having seen any here.

I doubt it. Only a bit over 2000 were made and Harris notes less than 200 RHD models were delivered to the UK. I’d say if any are here they’d be personal imports.

A quick Google search revealed this:

They all look pretty good to me!

Matt we never go the full on M series cars here prior to the E34 5 series and the E36 3 series. I think owing to emissions regulations and the like. This being around the time of our shift to unleaded. They sold a 535M which lacked the hot motor but was tuned up suspension, interior and body kit wise. Same with the 635.

Also if you recall after the floating of the Aussie dollar European car prices headed for the stratosphere so the market for these cars would have been in the handfuls.
