Pitpass brings word that planning for the 2013 Grand Prix of America in New Jersey is well underway. This should help ease rumours that the quasi-New York GP could be deferred until 2014.
The above pic shows a tailored Porsche Cayenne fitted with a camera rig that has reportedly been sent out on the roads of Weehawken and West New York to capture some promotional footage.
It’s understood work on the pit garages and paddock complex has begun at the Port Imperial site, while engineering for the 5.14km street circuit is also being finalised. With the NYC skyline in full view and elevation changes of around 50 metres it will be one of the sport’s most spectacular locations.
The race has been pencilled in for June next year and we suspect it will be huge. Will we see you there?

I hope the track is good. It could be such an awesome race.
Nice choice of car for taking photos…
I would like to go, but probably not next year.
If I can find the money I’ll be there…the good news is it won’t cost me anything in travel. My childhood time-waster of looking at maps of nearby towns and dreaming up the perfect street circuit will be vindicated (well, somewhat) when everybody sees this one. I was always trying to find a way to use Boulevard East, but since Port Imperial wasn’t developed yet, I had more of a dragstrip than a circuit!
You know I’ll be there. The site is 30 miles from home here in NJ. I know it will be amazing and I can’t wait.
I definitely will be there. Track is 30 miles from home here in NJ. Going to be amazing. I have driven the “course” and can see where speeds will hit 200mph. I hear that Tilke is doing some work to determine how much of the road surface they have to remove to insure they have a solid base. The entire 3.2 miles will be repaved to GP standards – per a friend who is on the “inside”.
Its so cool for you guys in that part of the world. As someone who lives just a few kilometres away from Albert Park, I can tell you that it is such a nice feeling to have a race nearby. If you are a fan that is!
I live here and all I can think about is the traffic!!
