Webber tougher than Schumacher says Rosberg

Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg, Williams F1 Team, 2006

Nico Rosberg, current teammate to seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, has declared Mark Webber the toughest teammate he’s shared a garage with during his six years in Formula One. The pair drove together for Williams in 2006, in what was Rosberg’s debut year.

Rosberg and Webber shared an amusing anecdote during the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix. While it was Mark who provided the laughs when he delivered a razor sharp punchline following contact between the two, he also showed Rosberg it’s every man for himself.

In part, that would go some way to explaining his reply when asked who has been his toughest teammate. “Mark Webber in 2006, then Michael,” was Rosberg’s reply.

Interesting commentary. I have always known Webber to be a hard fighter, on and off the track. It is this persistence and determination that probably has landed him in F1 to begin with. Look at how many drivers in Australia have tried and failed to get to F1. So is it any wonder that Webber gives no inch on or off the track? Good on him I say, stick it to the europeans on their home turf.

I only began to understand just how hard nosed he was a couple of years back when he was challenging Vettel for the title, he didn’t play teammate to Vettel’s raw pace, instead he pushed and pushed. The outcome though is, its made Vettel and extremely tough competitor, as he rose above it all last year.

Webber has my respect…
