Webber says Austin will be ace (and more)

2011 Australian Grand Prix

Mark Webber reckons the revitalised USGP will be a success and has given his seal of approval to the track layout.

“I think Austin will be a good addition,” Mark said. “The track looks sensational, they have done a good job with the layout, a lot of undulation and sweeping, quick corners which is always challenging for us.”

Although, he understands truly converting the US market to Formula One will be a tough gig. “It’s not a market that has been completely cracked but I think they will enthusiastic and they will be keen to have us there.

“Formula One needs to work a bit on softening and working a bit harder on education with a new audience.”

Horner admires Webber’s mental strength

Meanwhile, Mark Webber’s boss says the Aussie did well not to crumble under the pressure applied by his Red Bull Racing teammate in 2011.

“Lesser drivers would have crumbled under that pressure [of having Vettel as a teammate] but Mark isn’t like that,” RBR Team Principal, Christian Horner told BBC Look East. “He uses the pressure to motivate himself and will come out really fired up for Melbourne in 2012.

“He’s a world-class driver. He’s very strong mentally. He’ll be focusing hard over the winter and will be determined to come back and have a really strong 2012.”

Webber expecting no more tyre issues in 2012

Ready to build on the success he enjoyed in the season-ending race in Brazil, Webber says he expects no dramas adapting to Pirelli’s tyres in 2012.

Mark claims he struggled with the new Pirelli tyres early in 2011 but found the latter stages of the year much better. “When I ran those tyres in Abu Dhabi and Brazil, I felt completely at home on them,” Webber told Autosport.

“Pirelli did a good job to take a lot of the tyres that they were looking at for 2012 to do some development. It was encouraging for myself and for the team.”
