Subaru BRZ coming to Australia in May 2012?

Subaru BRZ

Subaru Australia is set to announce plans to bring the rear-wheel drive BRZ down under, CarAdvice reports. It’s understood a limited number of BRZs will be offered from May next year. That means the six-starred Toybaru may beat the Toyota 86 to the local market.

Subaru has traded off its all-wheel drive only offerings for over a decade, so the BRZ will force a slight shift in their marketing campaigns. Marketing is marketing and we’re sure the Subaru PR dept will develop a way to ensure the BRZ doesn’t harm its all-wheel drive pedigree.

I like the subbie version much better. So when are they breathing more air into the engine for a STI version? Maybe it’s time I get into a Japanese cheap thrill?

Lol i see what Subaru is doing!!!

They are making so we can’t import from Japan!!!

But def want to wait and see if there is a TRD version with supercharger or STI with turbo.

That’s a fair point Scott. If there was enough momentum to privately import VW Sciroccos (albeit only a handful) then the BRZ was always going to be seen in Australia. If Subaru has had their hand forced because of that, that’s a good thing IMO.

the way I read the limited number thing is it will be a limited number for May’s batch just so it beats the Toyota here and gets more hype for the car before all the Toyota fanboys(myself inc) wanting Toyota’s steal the limelight.

but def alot of hand rubbing by Toyota and Subaru … they said they want to make it affordable but this will cost just as much as a GTI (I count that car as unaffordable :s) but with less options :s
