The Volkswagen Golf24 will make its 24 hour race debut at the Nürburgring this weekend. It has been created to celebrate the 35th birthday of the GTI. In some ways it’s an odd tribute—with all-wheel drive and a 2.5 litre inline five cylinder engine—it features a drivetrain never seen in a GTI before and one never likely to be seen in the future.
Sure, as a road car the Golf24 would look completely stupid. As a racecar, though, it is pure porn. To celebrate that fact we’ve assembled the best pics available to date from Volkswagen Motorsport. Check them out after the break.

Was that clip of a Golf going around the outside of someone at the Karussel one of these? Pretty impressive if it was. More Nurburgring 24 hour coverage please AM.
Here’s one we prepared earlier…

Not bad for a cheating turbo with a dodgy haldex.
Now if only VW would give us the same sort of race coverage Audi did from Le Mans. Please God, I’ve been good.
I do not mind ‘cheating turbo’ with a dodgy haldex if it comes as 2.5L and 400hp. I drive R32Trurbo with 430HP – very streetable with 3PSI at 2000RPM and max 13PSI at 3000RPM 🙂 Matt Townsend – drive one before commenting 🙂
Actually for golf24 VW used subcontractor to make some components: http://www.pa-international.com.au. They made some single parts for them…
