Red Bull Racing could be heading for a new Formula One dynasty with two of the sport’s hottest properties agreeing to extend their contracts. Vettel, the youngest man to win an F1 world championship, has been re-signed until 2014. While Newey, designer of three championship winning cars at Williams, McLaren and Red Bull Racing, has also agreed new terms.
In a short statement released by RBR Vettel said, “The reason why I’ll stay until 2014 with Red Bull Racing is that I feel very comfortable in the team. I am proud to be part of the team, and I am proud of what we have archived so far and will achieve together in the future.”
Speaking to reporters Christian Horner, Team Principal, claimed many teams were after their young charge, “I’m sure he [Vettel] had loads of approaches and enquiries but he didn’t take any of them seriously.
“That was one of the reasons we were keen to get this finalised and announced before the start of the year, to avoid speculation. His future is with Red Bull for the foreseeable future.”
Horner went on to add RBR hopes they can secure Newey for remainder of his F1 career, “Adrian, through the natural terms of his agreement, had come to a discussion point which we actually agreed last year. Hopefully Red Bull will be the last team he works for in Formula One.”
