This latest video from McLaren provides goosebumps on the one hand, and is nauseating on the other. The banter between Lewis and Jenson is bearable; if only the section between 1:12 and 1:15 could be edited out, then this clip would be way more powerful.
It’s okay, we get it, McLaren is sponsored by Vodafone. There is no need to stuff things up by reminding us of that fact in such a way. But, we’re posting the clip, so I guess you could say the technique has worked.
Aside from that, some great memories come flooding back thanks to this video. Check it out below and see what you think. There’s an extra special treat if you do.
“On a given day, a given circumstance, you think you have a limit. And you then go for this limit, and you touch this limit. And you think, okay, this is the limit.
As soon [as] you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct and the experience as well, you can fly very high.”

For the benefit of anyone under the age of 20 years, he’s using a thing called a ‘manual’ gearbox. They were really popular once because people thought that the driver should have to do more than just sit there and let a computer drive. Crazy I know.
That incar gave me goose bumps. How awesome was it and how hard did he have to fight the car!
Thanks for that Liam!

Haha, you grumpy old man. 😛
Although, when Lewis and Jenson were talking about driving the MP4-4 I did think that they would have a massive learning curve in regards to driving an F1 car with a manual box.
Thanks Lima. I really enjoyed them. I have to admit, Vodafone/McLaren is producing some really cool videos and certainly Lewis and Jenson appear to get along pretty well, at least in public.
F’me, why do they have to go spoil an amazing clip with that stupid music? Anyone know if that clip exists without the stupid background music? As for the manual gearbox, those were the real days when drivers had no aids, had to fight the car all the time, no nancy protection around the cockpit, proper gear changes, where even if you were a rich indian or spanish kid you probably would have pooped yourself trying to drive these things and given up! I say bring it back. Allow them to go nuts on engine and chassis, but no aids, proper manual and to go even one step further proper clutch.
Thanks Liam see how Senna rocket under pristine condition brought memorie when he was racing.
