Wörthersee: Skoda Fabia & Octavia vRS+ Concepts

Skoda @ Worthersee 2010

Volkswagen offspring Skoda didn’t want to be left out of the Wörthersee action, so they rocked up with a few S2000 rally cars and a couple of new vRS+ concept vehicles. The one you see above is the Fabia vRS+ Concept. The other, the Octavia vRS+ Concept, can be seen below.

Sadly, these two models have been only enhanced cosmetically. Indeed, Jozef Kabaň, Head of Design at Å koda Auto, explains the thinking behind the Fabia vRS+, “The two-colour combination highlights the car’s unique architecture – the green colour is a reference to our involvement in the IRC rally programme and the unique connection with the Fabia Super 2000. The grey represents the vehicle’s sporty expression and simplicity combined with design details.”

This was Skoda’s first appearance at the annual Wörthersee show. The twin vRS+ models are a promising start, but let’s hope they make some performance mods next year.

More after the jump.

ŠKODA AUTO AT THE 29TH GTI WÖRTHERSEE 2010

  • Å koda Auto’s first appearance at the GTI Wörthersee tuning event
  • Presentation of tuned Å koda Octavia vRS+ and Å koda Fabia vRS+
  • Two Fabia S2000 race cars also exhibited

Škoda Auto appeared at the GTI tuning event which was held from the 12th– 15th May at Lake Wörthersee in Austria. Škoda displayed two tuned Fabia vRS+ and Octavia vRS+ vehicles designed by Škoda designers to present special optical packets and colour adaptations based on self-adhesive foils.

The Fabia vRS+ concept is based on the new Fabia vRS. Jozef Kabaň, Head of Design at Å koda Auto, explained; “The adapted version of the Fabia vRS shows off the characteristically pure and clear build of the Fabia’s body, such as the separation of the roof by arranging the windows in a continuous line. The two-colour combination highlights the car’s unique architecture – the green colour is a reference to our involvement in the IRC rally programme and the unique connection with the Fabia Super 2000. The grey represents the vehicle’s sporty expression and simplicity combined with design details.”

The Fabia vRS+ was designed specifically for the Wörthersee event. Its clearly defined shape highlights the optical width of the Fabia vRS+, and its strong character. Unique features included the headlamps and the radiator grille, which give the car a sharp look. The front and the tail are fitted with black spoilers and diffusers, and the bonnet is decorated, for the first time in this model, with visible air intakes. The interior, including sports seats, comes with new materials in the exclusive colours of this concept car.

Jozef Kabaň, adds; “The objective of the Octavia vRS+ concept car is to stress the attractiveness and unique character of the Octavia vRS model line. The two-colour paint and adhesive foils typify the car’s elegance, and the spoiler kit emphasises the sporty expression of this vehicle. The features that give the Octavia vRS+ a striking look include black-tinted headlamps and integrated LED-based taillights, as well as new materials and colours used in the interior.“

If these two innovative RS+ cars weren’t enough, Škoda also presented two liveried up Fabia Super 2000 rally cars with the help of two rally drivers, Mattias Kahle, who is supported by Škoda Auto Deutschland, and Raimund Baumschlager of BRR, a private team. The Škoda Fabia Super 2000 made its racing debut at the 2009 Monte Carlo Rally, representing Škoda Motorsport (factory team). Škoda Motorsport currently dominates the IRC series in both drivers’ and manufacturers’, with the UK’s sportsman, Guy Wilks joint second in the drivers’ table – a remarkable start to the season given his lack of experience driving the Fabia Super 2000.
