[Ed: Bit of a brain fade from me on this one, thanks to revhed for pointing that out in the comments section!]
As this pic shows it looks like Volkswagen will be offering a twin cab version of their new Amarok SUV. The Amarok is due in Australia late next year. The question is, will the dual cab be the launch model, with the single cab version, as seen in the show car, be a later release?
That’s a possibility according to the spy photographer who has been quoted as saying, “The double cab as seen here will be the first model, later on a single cab will follow. Power will come from latest generation diesel engines with common-rail and the Amarok will be offered as both two-and four-wheel drive versions.”

ummm the original Baywatch inspired show car (as seen at the Melbourne car show) was a dual cab…
D’oh! I’m sure I woke up this morning… 😛
What will this do to the world of tradies? Suddenly you have a slightly upmarket brand selling utes to tempt them out of their Sssang Yyyongs and Foldens. Will this impact their tough as nail image? Will this make them want to suddenly strip off and pretend to be running alongside bouncy Pam??????
End if the day it has to be cheaper than it’s rivals or it just won’t sell. Noone’s paying a premium for a ute with a golf dash in it made by a company with a bad rep for their older commercial vehicles. I’ll b lookin for a new ute about the time it shows it’s head but It’ll no doubt cost 60k+ so I really doubt I’ll be getting one haha
I meant 60k for dual cab/4wd btw I’m sure base 2wd single cab will be about half that haha
It better have day lights!!!!!!!!!
I’ll be down for it… I like the concept price pending. If it is anything like a golf inside with a bit heavier wearing interior then its going to be better than the commercial interior in the HiLux…
If its under $50-60K for something with a half decent spec, I’ll be there!
I think the Japs do his stuff better myself. Hilux might not have the badge kudos but it sets the bar in terms of quality / price / capability. Holden, Isuzu, Mazda, Ford all have similar products made in Japan. Good luck tho!
Todd & Wes I hope you’re waiting to hear on the auto tailgate option.
Of no Floody, for this I want an auto tray cover option that opens and closes on the touch of a button! Lol
That would be an auto tonneau cover. Wayne you’d look as ridiculous in this as on a 3 wheel scooter 😉 But at least the dual-cab would give room for the inlaws 🙂
The Amarok will not start at $60K more like mid to high $30ks for the entry level Amarok.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles plan to undercut Hilux but expect similar pricing ans spec.
The range will begin with the Dual Cab then a Single Cab and Cab Chassis options a year later.
VW Australia thinks the Amarok could possibly overtake the Golf in sales so thats 10K+ units a year.
If the interior is better than a Golf, I’d be happy with that in a 4WD dual cab… the interior in a HiLux is lousy in comparison to my Ford ute!
