Public service announcement: Avoid Subaru stand at Frankfurt

2010 Subaru Legacy

Subaru have kindly offered advance warning that they will be presenting their all new Liberty (Legacy) and Outback models at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. Don’t say you haven’t been warned!

Okay, sure, the production model doesn’t look anywhere near as ghastly as the concept. But, how did Subaru get its volume seller so wrong? Previous Liberty models haven’t exactly set the world on fire with earth shattering design, but their understated style has always, to me at least, suited the brand well. If this new look is the result of trying to be more memorable, I’d rather forget it.

To continue the warning theme, the all new Liberty and Outback will be launched in Australia in early September, one week prior to their Frankfurt appearance.

2010 Subaru Legacy

Frankfurt Premiere for Euro Legacy and Outback

European versions of the new generation Subaru Legacy and Outback will star at Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

The cars will be on display from September 17-27 at the 63rd Frankfurt International Motor Show.

It will be the European debut for the new Legacy (known in Australia as Liberty) and Outback.

They will officially be launched in Australia the preceding week.

Japanese and American versions of the cars are already on sale and are receiving widespread acclaim for their refinement, specification, safety and space.

As previously reported, Australian Libertys and Outbacks will be available with a wide variety of technical innovations, including Lineartronic Constantly Variable Transmission and six-speed manual options on some variants, plus the choice of a 3.6 litre six-cylinder horizontally opposed boxer engine.

Both cars are built on an entirely new platform.

About Subaru

Every Subaru sold in Australia features Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and a horizontally opposed boxer engine, standard Vehicle Dynamics Control electronic stability program, and a five-star rating for occupant safety from the independent Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). The result รขโ‚ฌโ€œ driving confidence.

That thing makes a Maxima look sexy. Oh lord it’s terrible (and that’s coming from someone who likes the G3 impreza ๐Ÿ™‚

Kind of reminds me of the camry before the current one with the tiny wheels and the big arse.

are they trying to bankrupt the company?! the only decent looking car they have ever made was the old Liberty

That is horrid ๐Ÿ™ I think the 4th Gen is one of the greatest looking, normal cars ever. Well it was, well done Subaru ๐Ÿ™

Anyone who buys a series 1 Subaru of any model is just asking to be severely punished when resale time comes. Subaru are obviously trying to be the Renault of the east. Only problem is that people sort of expect the French to do fugly chic but when the Japanese try it, it’s just ends up being plain fugly.

Surely you must actually be trying to make ugly cars to get it so right(wrong)?

Well at least it will have a sympathetic shoulder to cry on while sitting in the lot (ugly bother impreza sedan) . Not sure which is wose, but a least the impreza should be used to it by now – its been ungly for a few models. Previous liberties were pretty nice if a bit plain.

I’m willing to bet a pay packet that every person that has posted here, waxed lyrical in the past about how the latest 7 series shape looked crap when it came out… Or about how the Mk V Golf looked like a turd when pictures starting floating to the surface… yet both cars have been wildly successful!

Don’t be so hasty this time around ๐Ÿ™‚
