Audi have just added three new engines to its Australian A4 model range. A 3.0 TDI is now available with 176kW and, crucially, a 6.9l/100km fuel consumption figure, enabling the car to qualify for a lighter hit of Luxury Car Tax. Also joining the A4 range are two versions of the ever versatile 2.0 TFSI, one with 132kW, the other tweaked to produce 155kW. These engines supplement the existing 1.8 TFSI and 2.0 TDI engines already in the line up.

New Engines for Audi A4
- Sporty 2.0 TFSI joins A4 range
- Smooth and powerful 3.0 TDI quattro tops TDI range
Audi’s popular and successful new A4 range now has three additional direct-injection engines which have been added to the range this October – a TDI and two TFSI offerings.
The brand’s latest-generation model is proving popular with Australian buyers thanks to its winning combination of stylish design, strong performance and larger, wider, more dynamic appearance.
It comes with an excellent pedigree and is bulging with top-of-the-line options, previously found only on much higher-end models. These features include the intuitive MMI control system, new Audi drive select, Lane Assist, Side Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Both the A4, and its newly-launched Avant sibling, are dynamic and precise to drive and boast responsive engines with low fuel consumption.
This commitment to maximising performance, while progressively lowering consumption and emissions is a key focus area for Audi, and has been part of the brand’s product strategy for almost 30 years.
Audi A4 2.0 TFSI
A specialist jury of 65 respected auto journalists from 32 countries has voted Audi’s 2.0 TFSI engine the best-in-class (1.8 – 2.0 category) at the International Engine of the Year awards, for the fourth consecutive year.
Citing the 2.0 TFSI engine’s ‘benchmark for efficiency and performance in its category’, the jury also announced that Audi’s 4-cylinder engine was ‘a great example of an engine that’s so flexible it can deliver the right solution for a variety of different vehicles’, hence its gold-medal performance.
These newly-developed engines operate with the innovative Audi Valvelift System AVS which varies the lift of the exhaust valves and provides better performance with greater fuel economy.
Available in two guises, multitronic and quattro manual, the new A4 2.0 TFSI arrives in Australia this month. The A4 2.0 TFSI multitronic is powered by a 132 kW engine. Standard specification includes 17-inch alloys, rear acoustic parking system, MMI, Symphony sound system and mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth. It is priced at $58,537.
With a handy 155 kW and 350 Nm, the Audi A4 2.0 TFSI quattro arrives with Audi’s class-leading all-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission, priced at $70,189.
The 2.0 TFSI quattro also features an excellent level of standard equipment including 17-inch alloys, Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, acoustic parking system at front and rear, electric driver and front passenger seat with lumbar support, multifunction sports steering wheel, Bluetooth mobile phone preparation, Advanced Key with keyless entry and start and a Symphony sound system with 6-disc CD player with MMI operating logic and a 6.5-inch colour screen.
Audi A4 3.0 TDI quattro tiptronic
The 3.0 TDI engine is the most-powerful diesel engine for the A4 range, with 500 Nm of torque and 176 kW of power, yet still returns excellent fuel economy of just 6.9 litres per 100km.
This low consumption qualifies the new A4 3.0 TDI for a significantly reduced luxury car tax impost, under the Federal Government’s new ‘green threshold’ amendments.
The new A4 3.0 TDI quattro tiptronic sprints from 0 – 100 km/h in a mere 6.2 seconds, assisted by its asymmetric and dynamic quattro all wheel drive system and a seamless 6-speed tiptronic transmission, resulting in maximum traction, performance and safety.
The 3.0 TDI quattro tiptronic is priced at RRP $85,056 and comes with a high level of standard equipment including 18-inch alloys and walnut inlays to name a few.

One reply on “Audi gives A4 engine range more puff”
I drove past a 1.8T A4 with the R8 lights the other night, they look great but wished they left them exclusive for the R8.
