2015 WEC calendar confirmed

2014 6 Hours of Bahrain

The 2015 WEC calendar has been published following ratification from the FIA World Motor Sport Council.

As with this year there will be eight races in all. However, the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo has been dropped and replaced with the 6 Hours of Nürburgring in late August.

The season will begin at Silverstone in April and finish in Bahrain in November. The flagship 24 Hours of Le Mans will be held on 13–14 June.

Next year will bring the added interest of Nissan joining the LMP1 fun alongside defending champions Toyota and fellow competitors Audi and Porsche.

2014 WEC calendar confirmed

2014 Porsche LMP1

Next year the FIA World Endurance Championship is going to be all about Porsche. True, we can probably expect Audi and Toyota to take favouritism as the two most likely to the battle for the title. But when you consider Porsche has had the relative luxury of developing its 2014 LMP1 racecar without the demands of ongoing competition you’d not be surprised to see the 16-time Le Mans winners make a strong early showing.

No doubt the WEC will receive a huge upsurge in coverage here in Australia on the back of Mark Webber‘s return to top line sporstcar racing and we’ll be doing our best to play a part in that role.

Following the FIA’s approval overnight here’s the full calendar of events for the 2014 WEC season, which begins on 20 April with the 6 Hours of Silverstone. The jewel in the WEC crown is, of course, the 24 Hours of Le Mans which will take place on 14–15 June.

2013 WEC calendar confirmed

Audi wins 24 Hours of Le Mans 2012

The FIA’s World Motor Sport Council earned their keep in yesterday’s meeting. In addition to the F1 and WRC calendars they also signed off on an eight race program for the 2013 World Endurance Championship.

The jewel in the WEC crown is the 24 Hours of Le Mans to be held over the weekend of 22–23 June. You can see the full calendar after the break.
