Renault Megane RS275 Trophy-R – Australian pricing

Renault Megane RS275 Trophy R

Renault is bringing the Megane RS275 to Australia and we’re getting a fair whack of the limited edition model, too. Out of the 250 to be sold worldwide, 50 will be coming down under—Australia is one of the highest selling markets for Megane hot hatches.

As the image above suggests this car has lapped the Nürburgring Norschleife in under 8 minutes and lays claim to being the fastest front-wheel drive production car around the famed track money can buy. And to buy it in Australia you’ll need 61,990 monies.

For those monies you’ll get one RS275 Trophy R, with its race-tuned Ohlins suspension, super sticky Michelin rubber, crackly Akrapovic exhaust system and the weight saving benefits of throwing out the rear seat. Yep, the Trophy R is an out and out two-seater.

Also included in the asking price is the Nürburgring Accessory Kit, of which a Brembo brake kit, lightweight lithium-ion battery and six-point harness belts are the most notable items.

Australian deliveries of the RS275 Trophy R are scheduled for January 2015, so best get down to your local Froggie dealer soon if you want to be one of the 50 coolest hot hatch kids on the block.

Nürburgring-beating Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R pricing announced

8 December 2014

Gentlemen, start your engines: Orders are being taken across the Renault network for Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R, the latest limited edition Renault Sport hot hatch.

  • Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R holds the new record for a front-wheel drive car around Germany’s Nürburgring (7m54.36s).
  • The limited edition car (global production run of 250) is available for sale in only 15 countries.
  • 50 examples will come to Australia – the second highest order globally
  • In Australia, the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R will have a Recommended Retail Price of $61,990 including the Nürburgring Accessory Kit, making it the most affordable way to own a Nürburgring record-setting car in Australia

Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R is a two-seat hot hatch based on the recently-launched Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy.

This exclusive new Renault Sport limited-edition benefits from ultra-sporty features inspired by the brand’s racing activities.

A radical limited-edition car, ideal for circuit use

Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R comes as standard with the Cup chassis (complete with mechanical limited-slip differential), the 2.0-litre petrol R.S. engine boosted to 275bhp, a titanium Akrapovic exhaust system, ‘Öhlins Road&Track’ one-way adjustable dampers with composite springs and MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres that are specifically-adapted to the car.

A Nürburgring Accessory Kit including a lithium-ion battery, steel/aluminium brake discs and six-point harness belts with aviation-style buckles is available in Australia and contributes to Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R’s lighter weight.

Whilst Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R manages without rear seats, in the front can be found Recaro Pôle Position polycarbonate monocoque seats finished in alcantara, which yield a weight saving of 42 kilograms. These are fitted with a three-point seat belt, but the six-point harness with aviation-style buckle comes in the Nürburgring Accessory Kit. A rear strut brace and safety nets protect passengers from moving luggage.

For track-day fans eager to gain several vital seconds over the course of a lap, the use of a lithium-ion battery trims the overall weight by another 15 kilograms.
To ensure high-performance braking whilst at the same time contributing to the weight-shedding effort, Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R benefits from a special braking kit. Its 350/28-diameter steel and aluminium discs bring the car’s weight down by a further three kilograms. Ideally adapted to intensive circuit use, these Renault Sport-etched brakes endow the vehicle with a sharper bite.

An ultra-sporty stance

On the outside, Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R is available with new two-tone colour scheme, with Diamond Black roof mated with a Pearl White finish. The Trophy-R branded F1-type front blade, chequered flag graphic at the bottom of the front doors and graphics on the side of the car are all picked out in Red. Finished off with 19-inch red Speedline Turini wheel rims, this is a vehicle that sets itself apart as much on the circuit as on the open road.

The exclusivity of Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R similarly stands out in details like its Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel and handbrake bellows, leather gearshift knob and red seatbelts which match the visible stitching of the seats and steering wheel.

7m54.36s: A new record eloquent of Renault Sport’s expertise

Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R benefits from the experience acquired by Renault’s engine and chassis engineers in motorsport – from rallying to Formula 1.

This 14-second improvement on the previous record set by Mégane R.S. Trophy 8:08 in 2011 was achieved thanks to the commitment of the teams at Renault Sport Technologies and their partners.

Hundreds of hours of prior testing were conducted in France, Spain and Germany to optimise the development of this limited-edition model that boasts exceptional on-road dynamics.

The new lap record established by Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R underscores once again the knowhow and expertise of the specialists at Renault Sport Technologies when it comes to designing outstanding affordable sporting cars.

Standard equipment:

  • Cup chassis
  • Akrapovic titanium exhaust system
  • Monocoque Recaro alcantara seats
  • MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres
  • Öhlins Road&Track dampers
  • 19-inch red Speedline Turini wheels
  • Nürburgring Record Kit
    • Braking Kit
    • Lithium-ion Battery Kit
    • Six-point harness belts (x2)

The recommended retail price for Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R will be $61,990 drive away and includes the Nürburgring Accessory Kit valued in excess of $5000.

Commenting on the launch of the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R, Justin Hocevar, Managing Director of Renault Australia, said: “It is a very rare occurrence for an automotive manufacturer to release a limited edition like the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R with such a strong focus and purpose.

“It is an exciting opportunity for us to introduce this exclusive limited edition in Australia and it is a fantastic demonstration of the support for Renault Sport in Australia that we’ve been able to secure 50 vehicles out of the 250 vehicle globally.

“Renault Australia is the second highest selling country in the world for Renault Sport in 2014 and I’m confident that all 50 vehicles will be sold very quickly. We’ve already seen several customers place deposits for the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R without having seen the vehicle and with the exceptionally competitive pricing we’ve been able to achieve, I’m certain that the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R is destined to be a future classic,” said Hocevar.

The Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R deliveries will commence in January, 2015.

looks very nice and pretty hardcore. Those seats and harnesses look great. The ohlins suspension is pretty schmick too for a street car.

Btw why does it say $61,990 drive away? It’s not. That’s before drive away unfortunately, unless alpine and I have been ripped off.

The 275-R only comes in Pearl White or Liquid Yellow.
Sorry Alpine & Way but you are both full of it.
You may mean the normal 275 which is pretty much just the same as the 265 & has none of the good stuff that’s in the R.

@steve

Alpine & Way are not full of it.

According to the specifications list published by Renault Australia you can get your Trophy-R in:

Glacier White (369)
Oyster Grey (KNG)
Liquid Yellow (ENV)
Pearl White (QNC)
Diamond Black (GNE)

Letters/numbers in brackets are the paint codes.

However, I understand there will be 3 or less coming to Australia in Diamond Black and Oyster Grey. So maybe you’ve already missed out?!

Renault Australia are flexible with their colours, back in the day I wanted Glacier White in the 200 Cup Trophy (they didn’t offer this colour for this model) and they obliged without charge! well done Renault OZ.

Steve, that’s right, Alpine and I dont buy performance cars at all. We just make them up and post them on the net. I really drive a Toyota Prius.

Alpine and WAY, did you ask for the cars to include AC & Stereo? I read somewhere that Aussie specced cars would come equipped with these two items unless specified by the buyer to delete them.

Personally I could live without the stereo, but not the AC in our hot climate no matter how hard core the car was.

Having the AC installed I read only added 9kg which isn’t a big deal. I doubt the extra belt free spinning would rob much power either when AC was off.

Just curious to know if you both deleted the AC or not?

The first batch of the 50 Aus cars are sitting in Port Melb, readying to transport across the dealer network.

Hurry bloody up Renault!
