“I’ve got a stinking headache”

Mark Webber, 2014 6 Hours of Sao Paulo

Mark Webber spent last night in hospital after crashing out of the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo yesterday morning. He suffered bruising and concussion but is in good spirits and has had teammates visit him to wish him well. Former F1 driver Rubens Barichello also popped in to say g’day.

“I’m quite sore this morning, am pretty bruised and have got a stinking headache,” Mark said. “I’ve got no recollection of the accident or how it happened. The team is looking into the details to find out more.

“Thanks to the medical team at the track and here at the hospital, who did a great job and are looking after me very well.

“On a positive note, it’s great that the boys in the number 14 car managed to bring home the victory, which is a fantastic way to finish off the season. I’m already looking forward to getting out there again next year.”

Word via twitter says that Mark has just been released from hospital and he will soon be making his way to his home in England.

Mark has had way too many big accidents and concussions. I think it’s time he hangs up his driving gloves and starts to enjoy life with what few bran cells he has left. It’s obvious his reaction and speed isn;t quite there as it once was.

Sometimes a mans gotta know his limitations as Harry once saaid. Well I think it;s time for VVVebers to give it up.

Didn’t he get pole position for this race?

Without knowing what actually happened (The Ferrari may have hit him), I am not sure the comment from Paul is a fair one.

Yes, Mark and Timo Bernhard combined to qualify on pole.

It’s not totally clear from the available footage, but it appears as though Mark had lost control prior to making contact with the Ferrari.

He did pit for new tyres, but from what I can tell that was 3-4 laps prior to the accident, so you’d think they would have been up to working temperature.

Purely speculating, it would seem to be a case of driver error or mechanical failure.
