Last November Danish ace Allan Simonsen set a new official lap record around Mount Panorama in Bathurst. Simonsen’s record mark is 2:04.956 and was set at the wheel of the Maranello Motorsport Ferrari 458 GT3.
Just a couple of weeks ago Simonsen was at it again when he took the same car to a new official race lap record in the Bathurst 12 Hour with a time of 2:06.3311. No V8Supercar has beaten either of those times.
After the break you can watch onboard footage of Simonsen’s 2:04 lap.

Very very nice…….. Being an ‘all things Bathurst’ fan, you can see how more settled the 458 is compared to a V8SC. Entry/Exit speeds and, getting on the throttle earlier are major points of difference.
Why do people even compare these race machines to V8 Super Taxis ?
When people realise the truth about AVESCO or whatever they’re called now and how previously the Porsche Cup cars were “de-tuned” so they wouldn’t lap faster than the V8’s I stopped watching.
We need more of these REAL racing machines!!!!
Fred.e – did you also read about the rule for the recent “Bathurst 12 Hour’ race when any quali time under 2m08s would not be ‘considered’. Ha! Come race time, the numbers were easily surpassed.
Nice. Shame the camera’s field of view was not a bit better.
It’d be good if they knew how to spell “December”, haha!

Allan was killed in the early stages of the Le Mans 24 Hour race yesterday. May he rest in peace.
