Porsche will become the next manufacturer to use a triple turbo engine, Autocar reports. BMW confirmed their tri-turbo future last week when they announced the first cars in the new M Performance range.
Now we learn the new 911 Turbo will mate a small turbocharger to its 3.8 litre flat six to provide power low in the rev range, while two larger turbos will give the high-end 911 the stonking power we know and love.
As well as improved driveability, the tri-turbo system should offer better fuel economy. Great news for those cross-shopping a Prius with a 911 Turbo.
Peak power is tipped to be around 390kW. Those paying attention will know that’s the same number found in the 997.2 Turbo S and 22kW more than the previous model Turbo.
Naturally, the triple-turbo setup will be found in other 911 derivatives, such as the GT2 and GT2 RS.
