A Ferrari 458 Italia GT3, similar to the one pictured above, broke the lap record at Mount Panorama during the Sprint Bathurst event held on the weekend. Danish driver and endurance specialist Allan Simonsen set a fastest lap of 2:04.956, some 1.85 seconds faster than Craig Lowndes’ previous record time of 2:06.801.
Formula One driver Jenson Button, driving a McLaren MP4-23, posted a much quicker time around Bathurst in March this year. However, the promotional event was not officially timed and so his 1:48 lap is not recognised as an official record.
Simonsen was taking part at Sprint Bathurst in order to prepare for the 2012 Bathurst 12 Hour race.

@ Cat – where? i can’t see inside the red beast.
I was at the track when this car was lapping consistently 2.06 and it was only a matter of time before the lap record went
This is a very quick car and Simonsen knows the car very well and he knows the track
Question Any answers on what car can beat this new record ??
[…] word of Allan Simonsen’s new lap record at Bathurst has come through from Ateco Automotive, importers of Ferrari into Australia, confirming […]
The 599xx Evo will beat his time!! 😛
agree scott cant wait to see that, there is another not far away also.
Forza Ferrari!
If CAMS would let the Superkarts at Bathurst we would give that record a hurry up too.
We put an excellent professional submission in and CAMS gave no reason why they wont let us race at Bathurst. Money talks apparently.
@ Cameron. It would be nice to see some Superkarts on Bathurst but I would say it is too dangerous considering the walls are so close.
[…] we won’t be seeing anyone knock off Allan Simonsen’s lap record of 2:04.956 set during last year’s Sprint Bathurst […]
