Toyota FT-86 engine has 147kW/205Nm

Toyota FT-86

As well as this new image above engine specs, and more, for the upcoming Toyota FT-86 have been revealed in new leaked material (check out the source link).

To summarise the key data, the standard FT-86 will feature a 147kW normally aspirated 2.0 litre four cylinder boxer engine, confirming its ‘Toybaru’ roots. Peak power is achieved at 7000rpm. Torque will be 205Nm and reached at a peaky 6600rpm. Kerb weight for the entry level model is 1210kg and the ‘high-spec’ model will weigh an extra 20kg. Hmm, does that engine sound a little underwhelming to anyone else?

Fuel consumption shouldn’t be too bad, hovering around the 7.5–8.0l/100km region. Stability control is included and so is a limited slip diff if you stick with the standard 6-speed manual gearbox.

We wouldn’t be at all surprised if Toyota Australia chose to revive the Celica badge for the FT-86. Expect pricing to be somewhere around the $40,000 mark.

Needs moar powwer !!. And torque. Toyota have dropped the ball with this one. What next a hybrid version ?.

I think it just needs more tq…

It’s like only 8kw off a GTI and 75tq off…

So a nice TRD supercharger and i will be a happy man!!!

Can’t wait for 28days to see if TRD will be at the release with some nice options!

…but lighter than a type R and with a low centre of gravity and RWD.

I applaud Toyota for resisting forced induction – It is possible to build fantastic drivers cars without mountains of lazy torque – certain Clios and the MX5 spring to mind.

thats not a bad figure especially for a wretched flat 4. i still cant get over how CRAP the back end looks now. pretty crap effort toyota you hacks

Power figures and weight are exactly the same as the Clio RS 200!
Clio RS 200 Specs:
Max. power (kW) / (rpm) (147.5) / (7,100)
Max. Torque (Nm) / (rpm) (215) / (5,400)
Tare mass (kg) 1,281.

So this Toyota should be a crack of a drivers car.

Wotta joke. Good thing anyone who was ever into a Toyota has moved on over the last 10yrs. Oh wat a sportivo feeling!!

It doesn’t need a turbocharger with its weight. It will be competing in a class mostly of hot hatchbacks. While I think Toyota could have ran slightly more engine (2.4L and 170kw) with its low curb weight it should accelerate fine.

I’d honestly expect it to outpace the Golf GTi and Ford Xr5.

Same sort of power as a type R civic. I had one for a couple of years and it was an entertaining drive. I’d have preferred more torque but was plenty of fun once moving. I like the look of this toyota – more so than the honda. The interior is similar also. I’d suspect a similar price too, 40k – don’t see why they’d do it any cheaper. I’d get one at that price. Why are people bagging the rear lights? I like them, similar to the old bmw Z4. Roll on mid-late 2012.
