Leaked images of new BMW 1 Series hatch

BMW F20 1 Series hatch

Official pics and details of BMW’s new F20 1 Series hatch weren’t due for another few weeks, however the recent appearance of leaked images is expected to force BMW’s hand. Indeed, we could be seeing authorised info form Munich as soon as tomorrow morning.

So, then, what do we make of the rounder and slightly larger F20 1er? We expect first thoughts may be mixed, with a bias towards negative comments. However, the current 1 Series hatch has never really set the world on fire and people’s opinions of its styling have mellowed over time. The same is likely to happen again with the newer model.

It’s worth noting the interior seems to have taken a clear step forward. It’s not that the previous 1 Series interior was bad, just that, on these pics, the new model has made noticeable improvements.

One tidbit worth digesting on what we can see here is BMW’s use of gloss black and matt aluminium wing mirrors; styling cues used by Volkswagen and Audi to differentiate their performance models from their cheaper cars. Coincidence?

More pics after the break, and we’ll being you the official detail as soon as we can.

what a bloody shocker. the old 1 looked miles better. the rear lights look like theyre off a polo!

Lima, what made you think that this wasn’t meant to be shown for a few weeks yet? BMW insider clearly said at the start of this week that the pics will be released later in the week.

I’m extremly disappointed… When i think everybody criticized the Bangle era, i’m really afraid for the next 3 Series.

Whoa. That is bad. Interior looks great but the outside looks terrible and agree with the rear polo-esqe lights, which I don’t like either!

Hopefully the M sport version will look better.

It’s very unattractive and awkward looking. I though the last one was ugly enough, what are BMW’s designers thinking. No wonder they are losing market share rapidly.

Well, I’m sure it drives well at least…… This styling could seriously improve the look of the 5GT- it just doesn’t work on a small car.

That’s probably the worst looking hatch I’ve ever seen. BMW is going downwards, day by day, that even their cars are looking more and more depressed! The only thing keeping them going is the 3 series and the M3. The exterior looks like it’s a love child of a VW polo and a hyandai i35.
