This morning brings new details of the new Audi RS3. Well, assuming we’re not being led down the garden path again, like we were in the build up to Frankfurt 2009. Posted to The German Car Blog is the following info, which again comes via a UK customer claiming to have placed a pre-order for an RS3:
- The Audi RS3 will only be available as a 5-door Sportback version
- 6-speed manual standard, with a new 7-speed S-tronic gearbox (PQ500 unit) as an option (now available on TT RS too)
- Being a limited edition model (2700 units), the RS3 may get 10 more horsepower than TT RS (350bhp)
- The TT RS would receive the same power update in 2011 to coincide with the US launch
- quattro GmbH has reportedly tested the 2.5 litre 5 cylinder unit to 720bhp
- Expected UK pricing is between £38,000–40,000
- Aluminium panels, suspension parts and special lightweight sport seats have been used to save weight
- 2700 total production is same as proposed run for BMW’s 1M Coupé
Note: the above pic is a rendering only and has been floating around the interwebz for a while.

wayne – would make an “ideal city car” with the 7G and five doors, expected price here $100k mark??
Too little too late. The M3 is now our city car.
UK pricing £38,000–40,000. Shame we can’t get anywhere near that price here. Then it would be good value. $1 AUD = £0.60 current exchange rate would make the RS3 $66,675 AUD. Goes to show how badly we get ripped off in this country when buying European cars. As long as we are idiots and pay ridiculous prices, then they will keep selling them to us fully equiped with rubber gloves and vasso to go. Tell the poms to pay £60,015 ($100,000 AUD) and they would laugh at us thinking we were taking the piss. Every single RS3 would collect dust in showrooms over there at $100K AUD. Australia, land of the fools!
Jess, I’m with ya!
But Germany is nearer to UK than Australia, they can ship cars here a lot easier than getting them to you lot down there, that must affect the price?
I’ll take a sportback w/ DSG… if I can pay the UK price!
A$68k would be nice 🙂
I reckon, that’s a wee bit under the price I paid for my S3, haha.
