Top Gear, Season 16 – due to start in early 2011

Fans of Top Gear will have to wait until early next year for Series 16 to go to air. The news was published in the above snippet taken from the UK version of Top Gear magazine (September 2010 issue).

Traditionally, a series of Top Gear airs on British TV screens in the third quarter of each year. We can only speculate as to why Season 16 has been pushed back, but hopefully the lads will be back in January.

So far, then, we’ve only had seven episodes of Top Gear to tide us over in 2010; the final ep from Season 14 and the recently completed Season 15. There’s not been such a barren spell since 2006, which was the year Richard Hammond had his high speed accident. Apart from that that exception Top Gear have historically produced 13 or more episodes per year.

There is also a small rumour suggesting there could be a Top Gear Christmas Special, possibly even two, broadcast later this year.

That’s ok. There was a long wait for this one, and it was small but (IMHO) perfectly formed.

We might even get another Insert Geographical Location Here Special… which would be excellent.

Season 16 was delayed because of the loss of the white stig… It has nothing to do with the American Top Gear (which undoubtably looks terrible.)

I suppose they may have known Collins was about to out himself a few months ago, but the news was only confirmed in the last week or so. The snippet above from Top Gear mag was published a few weeks prior to that confirmation.

Tanner is a no talent. That supercars exposed show was boring and he had no sense of humor. Top Gear UK is hands down the best automotive show, if not the greatest show ever. I will give it a shot but US Top Gear is gonna be horrific if they put Tanner as the host.

Its a shame,, I love Top Gear so it will be hard to wait that long but channel 9 is advertising an Ashes Specail.. I know its not a whole season but there is definatly one specail in the works for this year..

I don’t want an American Top Gear. It will undoubtedly be lame, possibly even lamer than Fifth Gear.

You guys seem to be forgetting what the idea of top gear is. It is supposed to be a show about cars, not just a bunch of jokes. It almost seems that the cars are not the main focus anymore. I would not be surprised if most people watch Top gear just for the humor.
I could only assume the American one will probably not be nearly as popular. However it will probably be about cars. Fifth Gear is also about cars that is why it is superior to Top gear, the hosts also aren’t stereotypical.

Top Gear is not the most popular tv show on BBC if it were not because of its presenters, Grado. You see, opinions vary but the fact of the matter is, unlike you, many of us viewers prefer Top Gear over the dreary 5th gear. We are not only after technical car info but we are for entertainment.

Grado, the idea of top gear is that the “stereotypical” presenters represent the hopes and dreams of every middle aged man who dreams to be as funny (because of the stereotypes) and as lucky as to work for top gear. To be honest, if top gear was just about the cars, or presented by car experts…I’d just browse car magazines online. But I don’t, because top gear is presented by “everyday bloaks” who do everything really poorly. It’s hilarious, get over yourself. Viva Stig.

Although I am too sad that Top Gear will be delayed and then dumb Channel Nine (Australia) Will probably delay this by another couple of months! BTW: Top Gear is about cars AND entertainment so the people who say that 5th Gear is superior are lower then Richard Hammond! 😛

To those complaining about how Top Gear is not about the cars any more – the fact that its SO funny means that my wife will happily watch it with me! Its got all the car stuff but also a bunch of great humour. I wouldn’t care if its scripted or not. Thats not the point. Anyway, I am SO upset about the shortness of the latest season. Not happy that its going to be Jan until the show starts up again – stupid Ben Collins. But hey, hopefully we will see more of Sabina Schmidt. Yummy!

I am a german from Heidelberg and even I love Top Gear. For me there exists no other “auto show” which is comparable to Top Gear. It is so much fun, great humor and really really entertaining… still waiting for december…

They should come to New Zealand for a special considering we have never brought any cars in2 production lol

I am a little upset that the wait for Top Gear is so long. However im sure it will be worth the wait.

I recently applied for a U.S. visa at the London embassy and Richard Hammond was there. I can only assume he was there for a work visa for Top Gear since I haven’t heard of him doing any new shows at the moment. The U.S. episodes were some of my favourites so here’s hoping we get more of the same.

Was disappointed that ther was only 6 episoses in series 15, even mor so that thers only 1 this year, however, seeing the bugatti veyron ss made it all worth while, cant wait for the next showin of top gear, and the VEYRON.

Man I’m American and just saw the trailer for u.s. top gear it doesn’t have the character the humour the carisma that the u.k. Original top gear has they look all serious and can’t even describe the car properly but when Jeremy Richard or James talk about the cars it feels right somehow and man when they do something stupid I mean stoopid they make my day and I learn some stuff like the words rubbish crikey,stuff like that. I really don’t get why there some people that hate this show they must be on crack or something, obviously they don’t know was good on the tele.

The real reason why season 16 has been delayed, is because the BBC are skint they can’t afford to make it in this years budget.
If you watch the last couple of seasons the boys keep talking about the lack of cash to do shows (with a wink).

I wish the BBC would just stop all this reality crap like dancing with stars and so on then we might get some telly back including the great drama’s & comedies that Beeb used to do

I would just like to say that the show is still all about cars, just splashed all over with British humour. That is what makes the show enjoyable, and thus why I don’t like the look of U.S top gear, it looks as dreary as Fifth gear, just listing fact after fact.

I dont know what it is with american T.V using our T.V and making them awful, for example MTV are remaking Skins, and it looks horrible, ok so I admit they remade the office and it was good, but even though this is a completley genre I think they have failed in a remake

I’m from Egypt, and I do miss Top gear. I’ve waited for this season for many months (I thought that it would come on november like the previous seasons). However, here rolls some shocking news that I should wait more until January.I download it from the net because we don’t have BBC broadcast here.
For BBC, Stop silly reality show crap and put your funding for shows like Top gear.

well, let them have more time so maybe they can do better series then last ones, series 15. i mean, i’m only 24 and i love supercars, but i also want to know more about normal cars as well. we had so many new cars this year like new bmw 5 series and volvo s60, marcedes e class, jaguar xj, and cars like new astra, insignia, vw passat cc, honda cr-z…and the list goes on. but all those 3 blokes with mid life crisis were testing – a few supercars. i enjoy watching replays of old top gear from 2003-2008 much more then watching new ones. last series i found very boring. sorry top geat. please go to old days and test some cars a 24 year old bloke like me can actually buy. thank you.

I agree with the lot of you (barring that idiot GRADO, geesh ) Top Gear is what i call and all round vison of both entertainment AND insight to the lastest supercars on offer. and even though ill probably never own one , the fact i can see the lastest tech of what man can do with a car and have a few laughs whilst learning , what could be better ?

We can just tide ourselves with new Fifth Gear eps (for shame! that show is such tripe) and Top Gear Australia (only slightly better) until the probable XMAS special.

i think this possibly has something to do with the stig revealing himself and possibly to do with the live version of topgear.

Now we have to wait and they need to think about some new stig. I think they should get some sexy woman, sure Clarkson like the idea 😉

The real reason there were only 6 episodes is that they are running out of supercars to present. Trust me, the upcoming series will be:a veyron, a 911 clone, another Lambo (but its .003 kg lighter – wow!!)and the latest Aston (yes Jeremy, we KNOW you hate the flappy-paddle gearbox…) before jetting off to for the next ‘special’, driving mobility scooters across Qwertyuiopstania. Joe public loves it of course, but those who have watched it for a while know that TG has gone downhill.

I love top gear my husband, three daughters and I all watch it together. It’s probably the only tv show that we all like equally. It’s very. Funny and has to have three of the best looking older guys on tv presenting it. I like that eye candy just as much as the spasticus boys ( maybe pushing it ).

Jeremy Clarkson can eat shit. All those Morris Marinas he has destroyed on his supposed TV show… it’s a travesty. The stinky old git wouldn’t recognise a quality vehicle even if it ran him over in the street.

Patrick – Top gear was cancelled in 2001 due to low ratings, Tiff etc moved channels and made 5th gear in 2002 (after BBC refused to let them take the name with them), so if anything its the right place for a Top Gear reject to be. It’s a dud of a show anyways.

I’ve not seen the ozy top gear yet, I’ll look it up. As for watching 5th gear I’d rather eat dog excrement! Top Gear like so many others have said ..its just fun to watch. Don’t take it to seriously, take it for what it is. Clarkson for PM !

At least with Top Gear you get 60 minutes of entertainment whereas with Fifth Gear you get 17 minutes once you cut out the adverts and the two segments about their lame competition to win a second hand car.

@ang moh: Are you serious? Really? OK, if Top Gear preaches anything is that cars can not be weighed by facts or numbers; they are what they are to those that love them. You love your Morris, right on. Jeremy and the rest of the crew take a different view of them, big deal.
Clarkson stays taking shots at Americans all day long and you know what? It’s funny. I’m an American and I still laugh. Laugh at your self a bit, you might just have fun.

I am an American and I find Clarkson’s stabs at Americans hilarious. As far as Top Gear America i couldn’t help but feel that it was a cheaper, less enthusiastic spin-off but with time, i’m sure it has potential unless Top Gear was this amazing show right from the get-go. (fan since Season 12)

Guys….it’s pretty simple. BBC UK has finished milking the tv series cash cow and have moved on to milking the retail dvd cash cow. You know how it is with these cash cows…they tend not to last to long so they have to grow another cash cow every once a couple of years. Sad though….I’ve been a fan from 2002 ….sad to see the show going down that road.

-: TG: USA was rather bland at first watch, hopefully the guys do form some sort of bond how Jezzer, Captain Slow, and Hamster have… Yes give it the first season’s run through, they’ve already filmed the majority of it, lets see what happens.

-: Personal Note: I’ve got a DVR and record all the episodes of it I can that air, because after 15 seasons, that’s a lot of episodes that are still fun to watch, regardless of when it was filmed.

As a friend of James May, I have posed him the question and he said it was the lack of good cars to review, TG USA and the Ben Collins incident. He has assured me that the new series will be as good as ever but I cannot tell you what is happening as it is still under wraps. He also said that Jezza is doing less in this one as is is getting old and he wants to concentrate on his journalism and family commitments. I hope that this gas been of great use to you.

I have been a great fan of the show for many years now and have not found much to complain about it’s normally so much fun.
However I guess most of you have not seen the new dvd TG post apocalypse so a tip here DON’T BUY IT!!
just finished watching it and i’m afraid they start running out of ideas I actually got so bored I swapped to an old episode midway through.
bad news about Jezzy he’s getting old true the proof he’s not even in the dvd-shame!!
hopefully they’ll redeem themselves with the new series but expect it to be one of the last ones 🙁

They will be two christmas episodes, one on the 21st december, the next on boxing day, they will both be on BBC 2 at 8pm.
The new series will start shortly after in 2011.

well i agree to a lot of what you guys have been saying on the fact that UK TG(real one)is a lot more informitive and entertaining to watch. as for the US TG, well that is a lot of crap, the host are; Adam Ferrara, actor and comedian; Tanner Faust, racing and stunt driver; and Rutledge Wood, Speed Channel NASCAR commentator. Rutledge is an idiot, he trys to make joke that arn’t to funny, but the other two arn’t to bad. but the hole show is; well it’s not the show we all know and love…

I watch TG on BBC America. TG US is a slap to the face of the UK TG.
The network that shows TG is on the FOX networks. A NASCAR cominitator, a Drift champion, and a actor that has a show on…. You guessed it, the FOX network. If any of you are familiar with the Indy car series, washed up driver Paul Tracy is mostlikly the US version of The Stig. He too has a show on the network with the drift queen.
TG US is an unbelievable joke.
The last partial show I watched was just about stolen word for word on the SLS AMG. Sad, we steal a great idea from someone and ruin it. The only thing you may not know, US TG is also being somewhat funded by BBC America.
If you haven’t seen the shit version, you can see it at iTunes. But please don’t buy it and help fund their horrible version of TG.

Yes, some of the comebts do hit home when they, UK TG, make fun of us. However most of the times they are right.

The us top gear is boring and has no humor. The brits Top Gear is the best show ever, I am going to stick it out for the whole season of top gear US but so far it has not been too great. The hosts are much to dull. I think if they had Jeremy do a show or to i could really help, and would be dame interesting!

top gear was delayed due to may and hammond doing other shows and the MPH show (that i went watching it was good) and jeremy blowtorched some pizzas in front of his wedding veg te he lol =D

@John: Not sure where you got the info about TopGear US being on a Fox channel. History Channel is co-owned by Hearst Corporation, Disney-ABC Television Group, and NBC Universal, not Fox.
As for The US Top Gear, yeah its not as good. And most of the stuff is clearly patterned (copied) after the UK program’s. But the only real problem I have with it that the three hosts don’t have the chemistry that Clarkson, Hammond and May have. That takes time. If the show lasts, then that chemistry should develop. The latest episode had the hosts being used car salesmen, and it was interesting. Haven’t seen the UK hosts do that yet.

Also may and hammond aren’t the cause. Get yr facts before shouting off.
The blame most lies with that “cock” Collins, selling out to get his shit book on sale. I hope no one bought that crock of shit.
Also, the beeb are “skint” so they say, and have cleverly pushed the new series into 2011. Effectively halving their budget for the show.

Anyone that says TG USA isn’t as good as TG UK should go back to the early (i.e. 10 years ago) “new format” episodes of TG UK. They were crap.
I think the US version is pretty good, given it’s comparative immaturity and also its target audience.

Can’t wait for the new season of Top Gear UK, it’s the best show on either side of the Atlantic. Anyone who says Top Gear US is as good has never actually watched, it’s terrible, Top Gear Lite at best.

The early episodes of TG UK were ACTUAL CAR REVIEWS, and were in fact arguably better than current episodes in terms of actual information about the cars.
They were also entertaining altho perhaps not as much so as current ones, but they were far far FAR better than ANYTHING TG USA has ever done. Autocar is better than TGUSA. OVerdrive, an Indian show on CNBC is better than TGUSA

Top Gear is the only decent show on the BBCrap. My TV licence is paid solely to watch Top Gear

@spyder: At TG Live in Novemer, Jemery said that the new series was delayed because James was producing Man Lab, and because they were filming the Middle-Eastern special, though the “New Stig” idea could be true as well.

Everybody is so f*cking negative about top gear, Just because its more populair then fifth gear.And because top gear is widely recognized as the best! car show on the planet. Clarkson, May and Hammond take a more unconventional approach to tv making, And deliver a more original and creative show, That entertaining to watch and informatieve aswel. Smart people choose top gear.

hey everyone i just found this website but the english top gear is awesome ive seen every single episode with my 2 brothers and my dad we take time off anything every time its on we cancel everything were doing lol top gear shouldnt be put down in aanyway and i know people slander it and stuff but theres no need to and fith gear thats still a good car show too but its just not as entertaining and fun as top gear everyone has thier favourite show simple but theres no need to argue over but does any 1 know when the new series of 2011 will start because i really dont wanna miss it guys u can reply to this message and say shit about my life lol but everyone has thier own thing and i wont care what bad stuff u say i have my own point of view and so do all the rest of you i respect what any 1 says if they got bad points fair dues lol thats your point of view hope sum 1 replies soon cheers everyone 🙂

hi, just wondering if anyone could tell what day top gear will be going through shepparton vic, as it has been on the radio but have not said a date. so could anyone please tell me. i would love to take my 11 year old son to see them
