Aston Martin ‘Cynical’ Concept revealed

Aston Martin Cygnet Concept

Back in July Aston Martin shocked us all with the revelation they were developing a tiny little city car—the ‘Cygnet’. Well, actually, Toyota is doing the developing, mostly in the form of providing the iQ on which Aston can adorn its own design language. That process, in visual form at least, has been revealed today in the images you see here.

While a definite rationale hasn’t been published by Aston Martin it is understood that the car’s relatively frugal fuel consumption and exhaust emissions will help lower the figures of Aston’s overall fleet.

Even now the company has given little away, only providing a meagre three sentence release. So let’s show Aston that two can play that game, and instead of using the concept’s proper name, AUSmotive shall henceforth refer to the car as the ‘Cynical’.

Aston Martin today releases the first official images of the ‘Cygnet’ – a new luxury commuter concept car.

The Cygnet concept represents a creative, environmentally conscious solution, being small, yet with presence – and highly fuel efficient, now combined with the prestige of Aston Martin’s luxury brand ownership.

Work on the concept is ongoing and will continue into 2010 when it is hoped that it will become a production reality initially available to Aston Martin customers in the UK and Europe.

I like it although I wish they had done more with the interior – note the intention is this will only be sold to existing Aston customers

I actually reckon it looks pretty cool (Toyota DNA aside). If it had a supercharged V12 in it, I’d buy one :p

Oh, and I thought that they were planning on just giving them to people when they purchased a proper Aston??

What??? An Aston Martin model that doesn’t look exactly identical to all the others? What were they thinking.
