BMW Australia has confirmed news that the 330d will be available here in 2009. While exact dates and pricing are yet to be confirmed, the all new 180kW 6-cylinder diesel will be in showrooms sometime after April.
The use of turbo technology gives the oil burner a massive 550Nm of torque, available from just 1750rpm. The 330d will be available with a 6-speed automatic transmission only and the economic fuel consumption of 6.8l/100km will see the car benefit from a higher $75,000 Luxury Car Tax threshold.
Tom Noble, General Manager, Marketing at BMW Group Australia, reckons the 330d will hit the spot down under, “The new BMW 330d Sedan gives our customers the opportunity to mix V8 engine performance with four-cylinder fuel economy, but at the same time delivering the tangible delights of our highly-acclaimed straight-six cylinder engines.
“BMW in Australia has been selling increasing volumes of diesel-engined vehicles each year. Our customers really appreciate the benefits of these high torque, low consumption engines.”
The 3.0-litre straight-six engine accelerates the 330d from 0-100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds. Top speed is limited electronically to 250 km/h. Carbon dioxide emissions are just 180 g/km.
The revised 2009 3 Series range went on sale last week. Pricing for the BMW 330d will be announced closer to launch.
